Guest guest
I am sorry if that sounded a bit nasty. It wasn't meant that way but I am so frustrated and everyone compares it to their two week stall and that makes me even more frustrated. Forgive me if I am taking it out on you. Guest guest
Sandi, I was in a stall for 6+ weeks, and I had lost abput 8 pounds during induction. I finally started taking the CLA at about the 4th or 5th stall week, and in another week or son I started to lose again. It is a slow loss, but at least it is a loss. How about starting today, write down *everything that goes into your mouth*, water, tea, coffee, food, snacks, supplements, etc. Then post that this evening. Maybe with so many people on the list, we can help. Include what you think the carb counts are and your portion size. Don't just say cup of coffee with a little cream and AS--- break it down to 1 10oz coffee with 2 packet AS and 3TBS heavy cream. This will make it easer to see a problem. Hope to hear from you this evening. Kathy Sandi wrote: You guys just don't seem to understand. I am not in a stall for two weeks after losing 48 pounds. That would be the farthest thing from what I would want to convey. I can't believe your not losing, and with not losing how your sticking with it anyway. You are a very strong woman indeed. Guest guest
The thing that pushed me into changing my way of life was because my feet had suddenly swollen up so bad that I couldn't find my ankles. My legs that are normally thin for my size was huge. It scared the you know what out of me. I started taking water pills and at the same time I started Atkins. I did everything right for lc except that I was eating 3 bananas a day to prevent the severe leg cramps that I get with water pills if I don't get extra potassium. So I was really getting much too many carbs. I lost 8 pounds immediately and I found my legs again. I stopped the water pills and the bananas and have been completely legal since. So I do not feel that the 8 pounds loss were from the diet but rather from the water pills. In the past 2 months, I have never gone over the 20 carb range, usually below. I have bounced up and down the same 2 pounds never losing even one pound. At the beginning, I was eating a lot of pepperoni and cheese. I was afraid that was hurting me so I stopped the pepperoni completely and I will put some cheese in my eggs or in other food once in awhile, but won't eat a chunk of cheese like I did before. I was drinking diet soda but I have cut that out and now drink only water. Now around 100 oz a day. Yesterday 120. I don't drink coffee or tea so no caffeine. I was eating the advantage bars but I cut that out too. Pretty much the only carbs that I eat are vegetables and pumpkin seeds (one ounce a day) I eat a lot of cauliflower and broccoli and string beans. I was just told that I need to get down and dirty strict with myself. The ONLY time I ate something that was not legal was the skin from one half of a small baked potato with ALL of the potato scraped out. I don't know how many carbs that had but I can't imagine it to be too much. I don't know what else I can do to get strict with myself. I am very careful about what I put in my mouth. I don't eat it if I don't KNOW that it is ok. This morning I had eggs over lightly and they were exactly the way I like them with the yokes very runny. I have the lc rye bread in the house that I bought for my son and I was dying to use a slice to soak up the yokes but I was afraid so I didn't. I love this WOL and I love the way I feel and I love the control that I have over food and that I have absolutely no cravings for anything that I can't have. I am at the end of my rope and I desperately need help and support but I don't need to be jumped on. Guest guest
Alessandra, Maybe you have already done this, I don't always pay as much attention as I should, but what EXACTLY are you eating? Please post the menus for several days and maybe we can make suggestions. Have you checked out the yeast possibilities? Any meds you are taking that could cause this? Have you tested for food intolerances? Just some thoughts. Jean
Guest guest
Well, I will apologize to you. I was thinking that having days where you ate half a potato or days where you didn't eat at all were " normal " kinds of days for you. I was wrong. Sorry. I made assumptions based on a couple days postings and that was incredibly insensitive of me. I am wondering if perhaps Terry and Kirstie don't have something going there though talking about intolerances and yeast and such. I think posting your daily intake is a fantastic idea. When I was doing that I got a lot of feedback that helped me out a lot. As for the amount of carbs in a potato skin. A long time ago someone on the alt.support.diet.low-carb list posted that it would be about 11 carbs for the skin of 1/2 of a medium sized baking potato. I don't know if that is helpful to you or not. A.
Guest guest
Alessandra, Your body will hold onto the fat if it thinks you are starving it. You really have to eat 3 to 5 small meals a day, not one meal and a couple of very light snacks. I don't know that YOUR body has gone into starvation mode, but I know that it is so easy to think that if you aren't hungry you shouldn't eat and you will lose. That just does not work. Yes, yeast could cause you to retain your weight. There are some places on the web that offer yeast questionnaires to help determine if this could be a problem for you. Maybe someone has one of the addresses for these that they could post. Jean
Guest guest
Alessandra, Thanks for the run down on what you are not doing wrong. Now, what I didn't see, and maybe you didn't post because you thought it was obvious, was much about protein. You cut out pepperoni and no longer eat chunks of cheese, but I didn't see anything about eating meat, eggs, cream cheese, etc. Not knowing what you may be eating along these lines, may I suggest that you up your fat intake? Several people have noticed that adding cream cheese to the diet helps them lose weight. How about a steak with butter added on top? I also seem to recall several people said that eating shrimp immediately put them into ketosis? How about having a shrimp fest? Jean

Guest guest
Apology accepted. I think that when they talk about potato skins it is the way it is usually made with half of the potato still in it. Mine was not like that so I can't imagine that it is anything near 11 carbs. I left only enough potato in there that the skin wouldn't fall apart. Half of them did anyway when I put the cauliflower in it because it was so thin. Guest guest
Sandi, Notice, I am putting myself on a nickname basis with you now. : ) The bacon really should boost your fat intake which is what I was concerned with earlier. Do you have bacon every day? Could the salt or nitrates in the bacon be a problem for you? I have never had pumpkin seeds, so I don't know if they could cause problems or not. The ribs with 0 carb BBQ sauce sounds okay unless there is something in that sauce that is problematic for you specifically. Did you make the sauce yourself? If not, where can I get some? That sounds good! Actually, can I just come and eat at your house? As to the snack items, I would go ahead and add some of these items back in. If they don't cause bloating, weight gain, or anything, they probably are not the problem and why limit something that is not part of the problem. Sweeteners can be a problem for some people, even if artificial. Do these things cause cravings for you? If not, that may not be the problem either. I would try adding some beef and cream cheese just in case it is a problem of not enough fat. I would also do the questionnaire on the web site that I sent to see if yeast could be the culprit. It sure sounds like it could be because you should be losing. Jean
Guest guest
Sandi, Some known intolerances that could conceivably crop up just from your menu listed today would be: If you have yeast, the mayonnaise and cheese could feed the yeast. I know you didn't eat cheese, however. If you a soy intolerant, the mayonnaise could well be made from soybean oil. Some people react adversely to artificial sweeteners in products like SF jello. Some people also react to citric acid, also found in products like SF jello. Preservatives in the bacon have been known to create problems for some. Additionally, check the ingredients in the BBQ sauce. I can't emphasize enough that there is NO SUCH THING as a 0 carb product. Everything has carbs in it, including butter and meat (granted, they are only trace amounts, but they are there). Your BBQ sauce says it is 0 carbs PER SERVING, right? How much is a serving? All that means is that there is less than 1/2 gram per serving. So if one serving is 1 tablespoon and you had 4 tablespoons, then you could be getting almost 2 grams of carbs in that sauce. That's not such a big deal for people who are more carb tolerant than others, but if you are one of the unfortunate few who much keep carbs down to the absolute minimum, then every fraction of a carb may have be to counted toward your daily allotment. I never did see if you posted whether or not you are in ketosis. Are you in ketosis? Have you been staying in ketosis? Terry
Guest guest
I do not understand this BBQ sauce. it is 0 calorie 0 fat 0 sugar 0 carb The first ingredient is purified triple filtered water so it is mostly water but it also has tomato paste, white vinegar, worcheschire sauce, oat cider, apple cider vinegar, cellulose gel, salt, soy sauce, minced onion, minced garlic, etc. But it is surprisingly good. As far as not enough fat. The ribs were plenty fatty. None of the items that I took out caused me any problem. Nothing has caused cravings or bloating or anything. I only took them out because of the lack of weight loss, but that didn't help so I might as well put them back in, I guess. No I don't have bacon every day but I have it quite often. As far as the sauce. I got it in D`lites and I know not many have one near them but if you want it, I could get you a bottle. It is only $3.99. Guest guest
Sandi, Have you tried the Fat Fast?? Because you've never been in ketosis it sounds like you might be one of the metabolically resistant people who could use the Fat Fast to jump start your ketosis, and in turn, re-do Induction afterwards once your body knows what to do.. The Fat Fast is outlined in Dr. A's book, for those of you who are thinking about asking what it is and how to follow it . I did it myself and found it extremely useful when I was unable to get into ketosis through " normal " Induction.. Just a thought :-) Good luck! Guest guest
Sandi, If you are not in ketosis, then there is definitely a problem. Starting with the easiest explanation first, one would automatically assume that too many carbohydrates are being eaten, so that one's body has adequate glycogen to be able to fuel itself, therefore never going into fat burning mode. The only way to determine exactly how many carbs one is taking in would be to weigh and measure every particle of food and drink that enters the mouth, then look up carb counts from a reliable carb counter (being sure to add carbs for anything listed as 0 carbs, because, as we know there is no such thing as a zero carb food), and then totaling for the day. Once you know how many carbs are being eaten, a serious attempt to cut them back drastically would need to be made. Then, it would normally take 3 to 4 days to get into ketosis. If drastically cutting carbs to the bone doesn't result in ketosis, then perhaps there is a problem with metabolic resistance. This is exactly the situation for which Dr. Atkins recommend trying the Fat Fast. The best thing to do would be to read that section of the book over and over until you understand it and then try the Fat Fast for 5 to 7 days to see if ketosis results. If it does, then you know that you are one of those unfortunate metabolically resistant individuals who may have to cut carbs down to practically none in order to lose weight. If I were trying to troubleshoot this problem, I'd start with the easiest answer first and then work my way up to the Fat Fast. The FF is NOT easy. It's not for piddly little stalls. It's for seriously metabolically resistant people. If the Fat Fast doesn't work for someone, I think I'd recommend that the person either write off the WOE as just not being for them (and it isn't for 100% of the population, by the way) OR pursue some endocrinology type of testing from a qualified physician to rule out problems like thyroid dysfunction, hormone problems, and so forth. I truly wish I could help you with this Sandi. I hope this information at least gives you some things to consider which might help you out. Guest guest
Sandi, I guess I'm not the expert on why people don't lose while following Atkins strictly. Maybe you are one of those metabolically resistant people that needs to try the fat fast. Or you could do the meat fast for a couple of days and see if that gets you jump started.
