Guest guest
I just allowed myself to rest and take care of myself and not over do. It did get much better after two weeks and has been uphill since then. I also had open RNY and for me it was mostly the pain issue, although I did have a day or two of really bad gas pain, which I thought was constipation, and it really hurt. but once that passed (no pun intended) I felt much better and still am. I was driving about 1 1/2 weeks after surgery but didn't go many places because of the pain medication. I was surprised at how well my recovery went because usually that is not the case. I went in expecting the worse and was pleasantly surprised. in West Michigan
Guest guest
Nan, I just expected some " buyers remorse, " knew it would be normal and was ready for it... but it NEVER came, or at least hasn't come yet. Just expect it so you won't be surprised, and just ride it through. Also, I'd made a list of 100 post-op milestones I looked forward to, and I'm expecting to use that list to help me through any hard times. Just decide that if it happens, it will be short-lived. Guest guest
:Kim, Thanks for the reply. You know I have a big book here with all my " files " and everything, I think it would be a great idea to add a " post-op milestones " to it. Thanks for the terrific idea. I'm glad you are doing so good. I think I am just getting a little nervous lately. I am still so excited about this surgery that I can't wait another 2 weeks. Thanks again. Guest guest
, you have so very much on your plate, I don't know how you do it all, but you do. I really look up to you. You make me tired just thinking about all you do in a day. You take care of yourself, girl! Guest guest
Nan I feel so much better now and I am actually having a yard sale tomorrow and Saturday rain or shine and then I am done with this crap and on to more fun stuff ! I have a busy week for the next two weeks too but I am busy and so glad to have the energy to get it done now and as I think back two years I had my granny and my uncle who I was caring for in the hospital at the same time and I made it through and never left my granny's side and she was there 7 days I have always been very family oriented Re: question about post-op , you have so very much on your plate, I don't know how you do it all, but you do. Guest guest
Nope....didn't and haven't experienced it.....but those I know that have, said that the questioning is due to the discomfort they feel immediately following surgery. I had mine open, and didn't really have any discomfort....the few LAPs I know were up and moving DAYS before I was....! Then the " magical " two week post-op comes and they feel much better and wonder why they didn't have this surgery a year ago. Did anyone else feel this way right after surgery? How did you over come that feeling, or do you just start feeling better (around two weeks post-op)? Guest guest
I have a notebook too! But there's so much in it I am finding that I can't find what I need, so it's time to re-organize. I thought I had everything so clear, but now that I'm really living it, I am a little bewildered. Nervous is normal... when we get nervous we re-question what we're doing and then end up reassuring ourself that it's the right thing to do. Wake up calm the morning of surgery...plan a little ritual for yourself ahead of time... treat yourself to a refreshing bath/shower, home spa treatment, and listen to wonderful music. Spend some time in a place that calms you. I took a little cd player and speakers to the hospital with me - what a dream! I played " Island Tranquility, " the music both of my children were born to - and now I've been re-born to it! I also ended up making my husband go get me a little fan becasue I was SOOOOOO hot after surgery. I think we should all send ourselves a bouquet of flowers for being brave enough to take this step to take back our lives, because when we wake up and see our flowers from ourselves, it's the first reminder that we are taking care of ourselves! ( I am not used to taking great care of myself, and I am feeling selfish for not being able to take care of business here around the house as usual.) Plan some special things for your day of surgery and for your stay in the hospital.... this is the time for us to really nurture ourselves! Hugs to you...
