Kind of like when I went for my first pregnancy test...she asked if I

wanted it to be postive, I said very much so, when it turned out

negative she said it was very common, that when you stress about

something it rarely turns out well..*shrug* :)

(who was pregnant, but only a bloodtest showed it, so there goes that

theory ;)

Last Christmas when I was in high stress over a 2 month + stall I relaxed my

carbs a little - had berries for breakfast, dessert every night (low-carb of

course), piled my plate high with veggies and had a big woosh. I don't know

if it was the relaxing that helped or whether it was just time that my body

felt like letting go. I do try to vary my carbs (anything from induction

levels to up to 50 per day) in an effort to stop my body sensing a weight

loss plan. So far I haven't noticed any level that I consistently lose at

and do think that my body will let go of the pounds when it's good and

ready - and not a moment sooner.

If I'm playing around with more carbs Laverne, I do it in 2 different ways -

one is the 'holiday carb level'. This is a way to not feel deprived among

the celebrations. If I do eat less meat, it's just because I end up with

more veggies on my plate. Typical holiday day with the exteneded family

would be berries and cream for breakfast, mixed nuts for a snack, big salad

for lunch with some nice cold meats, in the afternoon usually snacking on

bacon wrapped smoked oysters or cheese chips made for the WHOLE family or

some Brie or meat rollups and olives (I always make sure to bring plenty of

legal munchies to my Mom's to counteract the chocolate and another sweets

that lie around there). My mother always makes at least 11 veggies with a

holiday meal - and I have some of everything except for potatoes. My

serving of turkey may be a little less than normal. We always bring some

low-carb chocolate mousse or cheesecake for dessert as an alternative to her

pies and cakes. Half the family will eat what we have brought.

If there is no holiday and I just feel like more veggies, I'll have a couple

of higher carb days that way but I think my protein would probably stay

fairly close to normal, although second helpings of meat would happen less.

Another thing I tried was when I had some really bad fruit cravings. I went

on Weight Watchers 123 for a week, but I did it with an Aktins twist. The

only non-Atkins food I ate was the fruit and yogurt. Because this plan is

low-fat, I did switch to 1% milk in my tea and butter was almost

non-existant. Because I wasn't spending my points on carby stuff, I did get

to double up on the amount of protein they consider desireable, but it was

still less than I would eat normally. I did drop some bounce pounds doing

this diet, but didn't get a new number. I was also pretty miserable as

being hungry sucks. If you are craving fruits and veggies, this isn't a bad

way to do it. But the other restrictions that you must follow to stick with

their plan aren't very much fun.

(dont' know if I really answered the question or not)

Re: Stressing over every carb

Kirstie,

When you add more carbs do you cut down on your meat portions???

Let's see... 'normally' I eat a 2-3 eggs for breakfast usually hard boiled.

About once a week I might add 3-4 pieces of bacon, but I'm not a big

breafast eater. If I'm not trying to stick to the low end of my carb range,

I may have some cream cheese and low-carb fruit spread on crisp bread, but

as general rule I try to keep breakast at about 3-4 carbs.

For lunch, I generally eat something left over like a pork chop with

leftover veggies, or if I don't have anything yumyy, I make myself a chef's

salad with a couple of slices of ham, a couple of hard boiled eggs and

sometimes some cheese. Left over steak on a salad is awesome with

bluecheese dressing. I have to take lunch to school so microwaveable is a

must.

For dinner I usually have a 6-10 oz. steak or pork chop. Some nights I have

seconds, some nights I don't eat it all. I'm not a big one for measuring

and I tend to just listen to my body more. I have finally learnt that it's

ok to not clear your plate at dinner - it just means better lunches the next

day!

Often (5 times a week?) somewhere in the day I'll have some pork rinds or

nuts, occassionally (twice a week maybe?) I mix up a low-carb mousse for

dessert. I usually have 1-3 large cups of tea with AS and cream.

Sorry I can't give you more precise quantities Laverne - I'm just not much

of a food measurer even when I follow recipes and I don't have set in stone

routines.

How are you hoping to relate this info to your eating patterns?

Hi Kirstie,

Thanks for giving me that info. I just wanted to see if I was eating to

much meat. I was doing so well then 2 weeks ago I started eating naghty

things, well I have put on 8 lbs. Monday I went back on induction and

yesterday I was in ketosis and I lost 2 1/2 lbs. I know I can lose the

rest. I am going to stay on induction for a month. BUT tomorrow I am

going to the state fair with my sisters so I am really going to need

some strong will power. Thanks again Kirstie.

Kirstie,

Another thing I started doing is writing down everything I eat then add

up the carbs at the end of the day. I can see now I was eating to many

legal carbs. Nut are my down fall. Does anyone know how many carbs are

in a sugarfree raspberry Breve? I love those things.

You are going to need strong will power and a backpack full of legal stuff

to carry with you. Pack lots of water and munchie treats - nuts, cheese,

raw veggies. Make it so that you have options available.

You can do this!
