Guest guest
This request for advise goes out to all you ladies who are taking some form of birth control. I am now in a relationship that I want to get on some form of birth control. I'm kind of tossing it between going on the Pill or getting one of those Deprovera shots. Now, most of us know how the Pill works, regulating TOM, and there is some hormone fluxxing. The Deprovera shot is taken once a year and stops all menstration and releasing of eggs. Now, both of these methods will disturb normal hormone function, but what I was wondering was--if any of you ladies (or men who have ladies) are taking either the Pill or Deprovera, how has it affected losing weight? If one of the other will prevent me from losing or make it very difficult, that would be a MAJOR factor in my decision whether or not to use it. But hey, I suppose I should be thankful I need it, though, eh?! (Insert wicked grin here.) Thanks! _________________________________________________________________ iVillage.com: Solutions for Your Life Check out the most exciting women's community on the Web http://www.ivillage.com
Guest guest
Well, it's up to you, but I would never tape Depo Provera again! It didn't cause a significant weight gain, but the side effects weren't worth it. The shots I got were every three months, not once a year. For two weeks after a shot, I would get headaches and nausea. I also tended to be more light headed and had bouts of dizziness. The worst drawback for me was that it completely killed my sex drive. I am not alone in this, it happened to several women I am on another list with. For months after I stopped taking the shots, I had no sexual appetite at all, and I had never had that problem before. Also, though it was nice to not have any periods while on the shots, since getting off them, my periods are much heavier than they were before, so all in all, I wish I had never taken it. 254/217/150 Birth control and WOE This request for advise goes out to all you ladies who are taking some form of birth control. Guest guest
This is one of those YMMV things. I'm on birth control, and it hasn't hindered my weight loss (32 lbs). But I know Atkins states in his book that for some people, it can be a problem. Good luck! Kathy in MA Semi-Professional Lurker
Guest guest
I was on the pill (ortho novum 150 - a fairly strong one) when I started this WOL. Went off in April (thanks to a little snip snip) and was hopeful that my slow rate of weight loss would speed up. It didn't change at all For me, being on the pill apparently didn't have any impact on my rate of weight loss. Kirstie
Guest guest
, I am on the Depo shot (given 4 times a year, not one.) It's part of the reason I'm on Atkins. I gained AT LEAST 20 lbs when I started getting the shot a year ago. (I've always been overweight but that last 20 pushed me to the edge of my sanity.) So far I'm losing great on this WOL but I've never had a shot while on Atkins. We'll see how it affects me this Monday when I go for my shot. I think it might slow me down a bit but it will probably only be temporary and it's worth it. HTH,249.5/223.5/135On Atkins since 6/26/00...dreams unwind...love's a state of mind... Guest guest
I had the exact opposite reaction. I hardly get mine any more (except when I'm a week or so away from the next shot). I look at it as a nice bonus. I guess all of these different responses go to show you that Depo is definitely a YMMV thing! *~ ~* > she tried the shot and has had her period non stop for MONTHS > now...and has lost all interest in sex... > Adria
