I think 61 is out of Station 1, Columbia Pike. 76 is out of

Station 6 (Falls Church). And volunteers sold lots of raffle

tickets to buy that big ladder that's so prominent in the

news images. They had to back off on the zillion-gallon-per-

minute pump because it reduced the supply to all the pumpers

to a piddle until they got more supply. Mondo pump on that

truck.

Civilian aircraft were to be grounded but government aircraft,

including MedEvac and police as well as the military, should be

operating whenever and whereever needed. All they have to do

is inform the FAA.

Udate on Trooper Middleton. Members of his family told a TV

reporter that he has already shown improvement and that doctors

say that he may be taken off a respirator as early as Thursday,

September 13.

A large commercial jet drove up Route 7 at low level early last

night. It raised the pucker factor until an officer reported

that it was Air Force One taking an entirely different flight

path from what would be normal.

Pentagon and National Airport Metro and VRE stations closed but

other public transportation will be moving. AmTrak still

'curtailed' until mid-day. They expect to open Baltimore-

Washington Airport at noon but Regan National, because of its

proximity to the Pentagon, will remain closed and Dulles,

because it's a 'crime scene' and source of one of the hijacked

flights, will also be closed. Hope none of you had business

in DC... like NENA officials... who were to testify before

congress.

Most area schools are closed. ALL GOVERNMENT OFFICES ARE OPEN

and congress will be in session, at least symbolically. Good

for them.

It has been a weird night. Less than a third of the usual number

of runs between midnight and 0500. Scanned all the local TV

stations throughout the night and not one advertisement until

now, 0458 hours. Twelve hours of continuous new coverage with

no ads must be a record.

I need to clean up the last of the night's paperwork, what little

there is. Then home to sleep the day and back tonight.
