Guest guest
Ok I'm thinking of having Lasik but after all the problems I have had with my safe saline implants (LOL) I'm afraid I'll have problems with this too...any input ? Guest guest
I had it many years ago and consider it the best thing I ever did for myself. My vision was 250/350 prior to Lasik, it's 20/20 now. Guest guest
The results are not permanent because the eyes continue to change as we age. An enhancement is almost always required at some point in one's life. I had one two years ago. It wasn't a big deal. I have no starbursts or any other problem and I was legally blind without correction. Guest guest
LOL! . . .These days, I don't trust anything the FDA approves! I met a retired pharmacist/drug distribution man recently. He told me that he doesn't like to take any medication if at all possible to do without. He said that all drugs have side effects - many unknown. He will take meds only in a crisis situation. He does take a lot of vitamins though. No drugs. His associates didn't like him questioning the safety of drugs - Didn't think he should be asking the questions he asked at meetings. In his opinion, the drug companies would do better to spend the money on research rather than advertising. Regarding ANY procedure (like Lasik), I would hold off as long as possible before having the procedure done. They continue to improve the techniques - don't be a test case! One lady I used to work with opted to have surgery to improve her vision quite a few years ago. After many procedures, could barely see. She worked with her nose about six inches from the computer screen. . . She was a writer. Bad news. They kept telling her that she would get her vision back. . . I don't know the outcome. I know of others who think it's the best thing they ever did. . . If you do have Lasik surgery, be sure to stay away from places like hospitals where bacteria hang out in abundance until healing is well underway. One friend developed awful infections when he continued working as a volunteer at a hospital after surgery. Rogene Re: Lasik , I desperately need to get lasik, but I am so scared to do it as well. Guest guest
One thing I'd like to add to Rogene's wise words, if you do choose to have Lasik, choose the best doctor you can find. You don't want a bargain doctor when dealing with your vision. I chose the best doctor in my area and was thrilled with the results but not every doctor has the same level of skill or care. Guest guest
I agree, great improvements are being made in lasik, and time will only improve that also. And, get the best, do not skimp on price and quality in the doctor. Lynda At 03:51 PM 1/2/2007, you wrote: >I agree with Rogene, on Lasik. Guest guest
Rogene, No thanks, I think I will stick with what God gave me. I am sorry I just can't get over how bad they lie about some important risk or the whole story is never told. Unless I am blind I would never do it, I don't have that much faith in any surgeries at this point. Except Explant. God Bless!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Guest guest
Hi lovely ladies! One caution I've heard about eye surgery, is that if you every change your diet, e.g. to vegan, or any drastic diet change your eyesight can improve, and some people have had to have their surgery redone. Guest guest
Donna, I didn't mean to scare anyone out of getting Lasik surgery. . . The woman I worked with had surgery when they were still experimenting with Lasik-like procedures. Our male friend volunteered in a major hospital wheeling patients all over the place where he picked up an infection right after he had surgery. He did come through OK - after months of misery! Normally Lasik surery is safe . . . I would just want to be sure I really needed the surgery, and if so, that I was in the best hands possible. And that one takes precautions to avoid infection. Guest guest
Yep, legally blind without correction. I had some nice thick glasses that corrected me to 20/20 or hard contact lenses. For me, Lasik was the best thing I did for myself but then I couldn't see without glasses either. For someone with mild vision problems, it's probably not worth the risk. Guest guest
Donna, There are horror stories for each and every type of surgery being done as well as success stories. Nearly everyone in my family has had Lasik and we all see 20/20 and had fabulous results. The key is finding the best doctor to do the job. Guest guest
Dearest Kenda: I wish that I could have Lasik, because my vision is so bad. It is good in the morning, but as the day progresses it gets quite bad. I would doubt that I would be a good candidate though, because I have MS and bloodshot eyes so often. I see my ophthalmologist in March, and I will ask him then. My glaucoma has gone, but I worry that it might come back! My father never ever had to wear glasses, and we all seem to have great vision...except for me. Sending love always........Lea ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`````` Re: Re: Lasik Yep, legally blind without correction. Guest guest
Kenda, I have heard really good things about lasik. I guess it boils down to finding a great doctor. I still am standing firm my gut says don't do it so I guess I have to listen to that this time around. Thanks for the post. Donna
Guest guest
Donna, I agree completely, if your gut says don't do it, definitely don't do it. It's best to listen to our intuition. Guest guest
My sister just had lasik but she doe not have PA and I would love to have it but with my luck and all my autoimmune problems I am afraid of complications. I also have very puffy eyelids and would love to have a eye job but I am so afraid of developing P on the incision. When I had abdominal and knee surgery I developed P on the scar. Has anyone here had cosmetic surgery?? Janet in NY
Guest guest
Hi, I heard a few years ago that we weren't a good candidate for lasik because of the immune suppressant drugs we take. Also, PA has such an effect on the eyes it would not be a good idea to cause any trauma to them that can be done without. Guest guest
Janet, I've had many orthopedic surgeries over the years of my life. I never understand why anyone wants to have ELECTIVE surgery. Lasik is different though I believe. Regarding surgical scars, when I had a steel rod put into my tibia the scar was across my knee cap. Afterwards, the psoriasis didn't come back on that knee. It was really strange. ________________________________________________________________________________\ ____ Any questions? Guest guest
I had Lasik surgery last June and have had no problems. Rheumy made me stop taking prenisone and Arava two weeks prior to surgery and stay off for two weeks afterwards. I thought I had PA at time of surgery. As it turns out, I may not have PA after all, but Mixed Connective Tissue Disorder with lupus overlap syndrome, so my experience may not be applicable. Jest saying... But even when my rheumy DID think I had PA, he gave me a " thumbs up " on the LASIK. Lucia > > Hi everyone! > Has anyone had lasik or any other kind of vision correction surgery?
