Guest guest
By now I am sure most people know that both Twin Towers collapsed, and a third building at the World Trade Center is in danger of collapse because of being hit by falling debris. Both Towers contained a large number of emergency personnel conducting evacuations when the collapses occurred. In a statement about an hour ago the Mayor made it clear that he expects a significant loss of life, and injury to NYPD, FD, and EMS personnel. At the moment the entire city is mobilized with all off duty firemen and police officers called back to duty. Six NJ Counties have their entire EMS systems on full standby alert. The National Guard is expected to provide relief to the local services later this afternoon. FEMA is bringing in three urban SAR teams. The City is currently making use of more than 50 hospitals. It has also commandeered the Staten Island Ferry, and two private ferry companies to transport emergency workers to Manhattan from Brooklyn, and Staten Island, and remove victims to hospitals. All bridges and tunnels are closed except for emergency use. The NJ Air National Guard is flying fighters over the City to enforce a no-fly zone. The Stock Exchanges are closed, and evacuated as well as many other high-profile potential targets. The smoke, and dust is clearly visible from my location some 30 miles from the City. And despite all of this the NYFD radio traffic sounds like it is just another day (in the tone and control of the dispatchers and units); what an amazing group of professionals! The scope of this disaster is unimaginable. Mounmouth County, NJ
