Guest guest
I agree with Marlena and Viv -- I LOVE my tanita. As I've discussed with Marlena before, I have tried to lean to right and/or left for a lower reading....AND IT WON'T WORK...!!! Mine is very accurate even when I move it from place to place in my room. In a message dated 8/21/00 4:45:19 PM Eastern Daylight Time, sonnet@... writes: << Add me to the list of Tanita fans. I just got mine and I love it. I was using a cheapie digital that made me nuts - I would weigh myself, go into the bathroom, come back and weigh again, exactly the same way - and be 2 lbs heavier! The Tanita is very, very consistent and knowing my body fat % is good because it will go down even when my weight stays the same. Guest guest
Sorry Sandi but I really disagree (and love my scale). I mean, it's okay that you don't like the scale but realize that in calculating your bodyfat percentage it does more than " a calculation of your height to your weight and come up with a number " . The Tanita scales utilize a " foot pad " electrode design which uses Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA) to determine body fat. My simple-minded understanding of that is as follows... it sends a very low-level electrical impulse (via the foot pad) through the bottom of one foot and waits to see how long it takes for that impulse to reach the " foot pad " under your other foot. This " time " is then utilized with your height and weight to calculate the percentage of body fat that you have. When it comes to fat and muscle, it is more difficult for the electrical impulse to go thru one than the other. Personally, I love my Tanita Body Fat Scale and think it was worth the price. Just my (differing) opinion -Marlena in DC > I own one and I am sorry but although I hear people rave about them, I feel it was a waste of money. I thought my own scale was unreliable because if I weighed myself 3 times, I got 3 different readings but I have the same thing with the Tanita. > As far as the fat monitor, it just does a calculation of your height to your weight and comes up with a number. That is not a real reading and you could get the same thing with a calculator. Plus everytime I get on the scale, it gives me a different reading. And the readings don't make sense. I might be down a pound and the fat monitor is up. Then I go up that pound and the fat monitor doesn't change or it goes the opposite way. I have a reading anyplace from 46 - 52. It is worthless. :{{ If I hadn't bought it on Ebay, I would have demanded my money back. > > Alessandra (Sandi) > ICQ #2695225 > > If you have diabetes and are on Atkins then > join us at /group/Atkins4diabetics > > > > Does anyone own a tanita scale...are they worth the investment and does the body fat monitor thingy really work???? Guest guest
Well you may be right about that. I couldn't see any way that it could measure it but that sounds logical. But why does it show a different number each time I get on? As the weight does. Guest guest
Sandi... Here is a link to FAQ's about Tanita Body Fat Scales http://www.tanita.com/faqtbf.html One of the questions/answers is about why the results can be skewed. Guest guest
Well I guess I am just outnumbered here. Maybe I just got a lemon. Alessandra (Sandi)ICQ #2695225 If you have diabetes and are on Atkins thenjoin us at /group/Atkins4diabetics Maggie, I have a tanita scale and certainly didn't pay $100.00 for it. I have a low end model, but it's accurate and reliable. I think I paid about 60.00 for it. << Does anyone own a tanita scale...are they worth the investment and does the body fat monitor thingy really work???? I really want one but I'm not ssure if I want to spend $100 on a scale...Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Maggie >>

Mine is very accurate even when I move it from place to place in my room. << I have the most basic model (w/o the body-fat monitor) and I agree. I love how accurate it is - it settles in on the number, and then it doesn't budge, so you can read it easily w/o squinting. And I love the big display. Come to think of it, the only thing I don't like is the number itself, LOL! Aviva
