Guest guest
Leyna, that's wonderful! I know it sucks having to spend what you've saved, but just be thrilled you had it to do that with! If I had money saved up, I don't care if it took me my entire 31 yrs of life to have saved it --I'd have done it by now already! This IS an emergency... just like the kind of thing you may have been saving for. I know it's frustrating sinking more money into this -I'm scared too. You just have to look at the examples set before us and those who have gotten better and use that as your motivation to let go of it. Anyway -good luck!!! Guest guest
Leyna, Good for you! It's money well spent. Will you have a lift? I did, and I look great. I had my explant by Melmed and I have to say that the whole experience was as good as such an experience could be. He is the best. He is very caring, funny and positive, really makes you feel you are doing the right thing. The anesthesiologist called me the night before to answer any questions, and the hospital staff were so nice. One suggestion: bring a written list of any questions you have with you to the consult. When I went in to see him, the first thing he said to me was "You're going to feel so much better after the surgery," and I burst into tears. Of all the doctors whom I'd seen over the many months previous, not one had ever said that. I was so emotional I would've forgotten everything I wanted to ask if I hadn't brought the list! Melmed does send the capsules away to be analyzed, and that is an extra fee, so make sure and ask him about that-- it isn't included in his price. It takes several weeks and they'll bill you. I stayed at Embassy Suites, a bland moderately-priced hotel that has a good shuttle service. Melmed's office recommended it. Lots of explant ladies stay there. It's funny, when I was there, it was chock full of Katrina refugees, all these families living in hotel suites. They are probably gone by now. If you feel up to it, the JFK museum in Dallas is really interesting. I went there the day before my surgery. You can get there by the city train service. There's nothing much else to do in Dallas, though, but you won't feel much like doing anything afterwards but watching dumb TV. If you have any other questions about my experience, feel free to email me privately: bindi@.... Bindi Re: Gonna do it! Leyna, that's wonderful! Guest guest
Leyna, Congratulations! I am so glad you have decided on Melmed for your explant. I also went out of my insurance's network of PS to get explanted. I went with Dr. Feng. I had to drive out of my state to see her. Might I suggest finding out with your insurance company if they are willing pay a lessor percentage for going with an out of network doctor. We paid for my surgery with Dr. Feng out of our savings. Then my insurance company reimbursed me 60% of the expense. I was happy to get anything back from my insurance company. We did have to send them a note from my GP referring me to Dr. Feng and also Dr. Feng's post opperative report. The deciding factor, however, was my lab report on the implants and capsules. It wasn't as fancy as Dr. Blais' it was just the lab that Dr. Feng uses. I am sure they would be happy that you are saving them money by going out of network. leyna1964 <leyna1964@...> wrote: Although my insurance will cover my explant 100%, I do not trust the surgeon I have an appointment with next week.So I booked my surgery with Dr. Melmed in Texas, for September 26th, with the consultation on the 25th.I'm terrified...not so much of the surgery, but for spending my life savings. Guest guest
Bindi, Yes, I will have a lift. His fee for everything (explant, lift, capsules sent off, etc.) is going to be around $6,444 (OUCH). That's another reason I picked him-he does the lift at the same time as explant! Bless your heart-I know how you feel about bawling if the doctor sounds encouraging about how you will feel afterwards. That's one of the main reasons I picked Melmed, after all I reada about him. A few weeks ago, I had called him and gave the nurse my email, and she mailed me quite a lot of stuff like what to expect, how to dress, and a two page list of hotels to stay at, at discounted rates. So Embassy Suite's has a shuttle directly to Melmed's office? Cool! I did try to put your email in my Outlook Express, but it said it was not a valid email. I clicked the link to email you though, and included my email so I could talk to you privately without cluttering up the group with my dumb questions. lol Talk to ya later-and thanks again!freebindi <bindi@...> wrote: Leyna, Good for you! Guest guest
, No, my insurance only covers Tennessee-nothing more. It is not a private insurance, but a State insurance for poverty level people, or people who are uninsurable. I qualify for both! lol Anyway, if it's not done in Tennessee, in their network, they will not cover a single penny of it. Lamse <wannabe_proverbs31@...> wrote: Leyna, Congratulations! Guest guest
Terri, Mine are Surgitek, by Bristol. All this time, I thought mine were Dow Corning, and all this time they have let me believe that they were. When I asked them about that, they said that I must have THOUGHT they were Dow, and put that down, and they just now somehow realized that mine were Bristol instead. I talked to Bristol a few weeks ago, and they told me I was a current claiment, but that they did not have my proof of manufacturer-once they had that, they would send me a check for $1,000, and then when I had them removed, I was to send them a copy of the paperwork, and they would send another $4,000. So I had to call Dow back and get them to mail me a copy of all my paperwork they have on me. They sent me a release form to mail my copies to me, and I mailed it back two weeks ago. I called them back today and they said they had not recieved it yet. So I'm just waiting on them to get that release from me, and then I'll get a little money to help me out with this. Guest guest
Lenya, I had to have mine ID after explant by a dr. Resch who is on the Dow approved list,After explant I had the implants sent to him to positively ID them as Surgitek. It took about 11 weeks to get this report, I almost missed the deadline for Dow settlement. I would not go through this Dr. as he has still not sent back my implants as per our contract. All he did was document that they wee Surgitek. Guest guest
You only have to prove who the manufacturer is, If you have your original surgical report it should say if not you hve to have them ID to say who made them, They don't have to be ruptured. If you have them out because of any reason you just have to send the info that they require, explant report and manufacturer proof, Believe me the one thing that really upsets me is they know who we all are they have records much like an inventory, Doctors who ordered from them and surgical reports. Dow contacted me 19 years ago , when I asked my PS he said that it only applied to silicone and I had saline, I only found out after explant that I was positive for silicone in the capsule and breast tissue, Later found out they were all silicone, they are playing games, hoping we don't know what we are doing, I also found out from my explanting surgeon that they were all made by Dow, TerriP > > Although my insurance will cover my explant 100%, I do > not trust the > > surgeon I have an appointment with next week. > > > > So I booked my surgery with Dr. Melmed in Texas, for September > 26th, > > with the consultation on the 25th. > > > > I'm terrified...not so much of the surgery, but for spending my > life > > savings. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > --------------------------------- > > All-new - Fire up a more powerful email and get things > done faster. > > >
Guest guest
Maybe someone else can talk about this, but if you still have your implants it is not too late to contact Dow, they do have an explant fund, The MDL handles Bristol, Meyers and some others. Contact Dow or Mdl and find out where you stand, MDL # is 1-800-600-0311 ask for she is actually nice, Dow Corning is 866-874-6099. Just ask them what you need to do if you are having explant or if you still need to have explant . They are familiar with who we are, I was surprised after 18 years they said oh you moved we have you living in Las Vegas, I was shocked, they know who we are, I am sorry if I sound upset but gosh I went through this one piece at a time, I almsot missed the deadline for Dow but I believe it starts from the time you get them out. Anybody out there know different, They are hoping we will not know and they can say oh too late. Guest guest
Leyna, That is not my experience w/Melmed. He told me that he removes ALL of the capsule from symptomatic women. If a woman without symptoms has a capsule that is very very thin and adhering the the chest wall and would require a lot of scraping to remove it, he might leave a small bit if it looks too damaging to the tissues to scrape it off, but with almost every case he removes it entirely. Mine had to be scraped off in some areas. You can email him about this. Also, on the Explantation.com site he wrote a detailed explanation about this that might be good for you to read, because there were rumours flying that he didn't remove the whole capsule. This isn't true. I have the post-op report from my explant, also the report from the analysis of the capsules, and both state that the ENTIRE capsule was removed. Melmed definitely knows the importance of this-- he was the only PS to testify before the FDA that implants were making women sick. I think you'll feel better if you ask Melmed as many questions as you need beforehand (best by email), and also talk to women who have used him. I think it will make you feel much more relaxed about the whole thing. Bindi Re: Gonna do it! Patty, WHAT??? Melmed has a problem with removing capsules? I thought he was the best!! Guest guest
I don't think you have anything to worry about if you have silicone gel implants. I think he will do an en bloc for sure with silicone gel. It is when we are talking about salines that we wonder if he gets them all or not. Sometimes he appears not to be very concerned about the scar tissue with salines. So, just to cover your bases, I would suggest just really covering this part of explant with him very, very thoroughly, so he understands your desire to have this done right, no ifs, ands, or buts about it. Guest guest
I do not know about foreign claimants (outside the US). However, it is too late to register for explant funds, with either Dow or MDL. If you have already registered with Dow and are considered a 'current' claimant, it is not too late to get explant funds. > > > > Although my insurance will cover my explant 100%, I do > > >not trust the > > > > surgeon I have an appointment with next week. > > > > > > > > So I booked my surgery with Dr. Melmed in Texas, for September > > >26th, > > > > with the consultation on the 25th. > > > > > > > > I'm terrified...not so much of the surgery, but for spending my > > >life > > > > savings. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > --------------------------------- > > > > All-new - Fire up a more powerful email and get > things > > >done faster. > > > > > > > > > > > > >
