Guest guest
I agree with you on the TOD who doesn't know about implants. I dealt with this situation in the county next to mine - the TOD from another agency (not the school) was very sign oriented and did not know where to start with the implant let alone what to do on a long term basis. (The opposite would be true - if you wanted your child fluent in ASL, an oral biased TOD would be pretty useless.) We used the argument that we weren't saying the TOD wasn't any good, but that her focus was on kids who had no auditory abilitiy and the child with an implant is a child with which you need to maximize the auditory ability. The school system ended up paying for AV therapy for 4 years!! If you are still under Early Intervention, they should be willing to pay for AV rather than this other lady. If the AV center is a provider for EI. Ask. They might not tell you, but the AV Centers here are all EI providers. Guest guest
Okay where do you live, we're moving! :-) What is EI? I live in Minnesota where the closest AV therapist is 6 hours away. But her services are available through the school system if I lived in her area. The AV I found is in Canada. 2.5 hours from me. I've already been around and around about crossing state borders. (I border North Dakota and my son goes to the UND speech clinic for services which I asked the school to pay for but they wouldn't) So asking for reimbursement in another country...makes me think. Also, my school has no pre-school program. My son has at least 2 if not 3 years before kindergarten. I need to figure something out about that too. Thanks. Guest guest
, Sorry, duh EI is Early Intervention. I re-read your post again. So, do you think that since the public school does not have their own TOD and are getting their Special Education services from the Area Special Education Co-op that that is separate funding? Such as the school is paying the ASEC for the TOD? Thanks. Heidi >>> 06/17 8:40 AM >>> From: pcknott@... I agree with you on the TOD who doesn't know about implants. Guest guest
Heidi, Suspend her for awhile, I love it. If you find out how let me know, I would like to suspend our special ed director for awhile. I wish I could find out how to get my children AV therapy here, I can't even find out any information on it besides the fact that the TOD uses some when she is working with my children. Guest guest
Hi - I just got my Listen-Up digest this morning - the digest was HUGE (about 3 or 4 times as large as normal). When I opened it, there were responses to posts, but then the ENTIRE digest was reproduced thereafter in the body of the post (11 or 12 emails). This occurred three or four times. PLEASE don't copy the post (or reply to the post) and not edit it! There was basically nothing here this morning. At the risk of " do what I say, not what I do " (and not picking on fellow listmates - I did not include the person's name who sent these posts), this is what it looked like. After the post listing, every single post was regurgitated! ----- Subject: Re: Digest Number 60 , Sorry, duh EI is Early Intervention. I re-read your post again. I find it much easier to read and respond to even if the person didnt copy the whole post Terry
