My dad is 94 and two years ago he was diagnosed with diabetes. So

far he's been able to control it with diet.

Last summer he spent at his lake cottage with my mom, rowing his boat

and with the help of two canes walking a quarter mile or so most days.

In the last 90 days he has failed. It bagan with a fall which really

knocked the stuffing out of him, although he didn't break anything.

He did spend two weeks in the hospital however. He came home before

Christmas but he hasn't been very interested in food. A catch 22.

If he doesn't eat he doesn't have any energy and with no energy he

doesn't feel much like eating.

Which brings me to my problem. One thing he does like is egg nog.

And it's full of good stuff in the energy department. But the sugar

is a problem. I've been trying to find where I might go to get a

recipie to make him some egg nog or a milkshake or such, that isn't

loaded with sugar and other things that might be a problem for him.

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask for this sort of

help. If not, sorry to take up your time. But if it is, and if

anyone has any suggestions, I'd be pleased to hear from you. It may

also be you could direct me to a group better suited for this

problem. I chose this one for two reasons: It was first up on the

egroups search and you have lots of members.

Many thanks for reading this and best wishes to each and everyone of

you for 2001.

Dear Penny,

You are taking good care of your dad. In just the past few days I ran across

an eggnog-flavored low-carbohydrate protein shake mix at one of the low-carb

sites. I'll bet anything you could find something by going to

http://www.altavista.com and typing in the following: +low +carb* +eggnog

A good starting place would be http://www.lifeservices.com because they have

a huge lineup of low-carb products.
