Re: So sick of stares - To Kim

Hello Kim... I can identify with what you're feeling. Ignacio was

banded 2 weeks ago and, as far as I know, he is the only banded baby

in Puerto Rico at present time. Treatment is not available in our

area so it is really an unknown condition to my neighbors and

friends.

I have gone out with Ignacio and I receive the stares. I was sort

of accustomed to the stares since I have twin boys so everyone find

it extremely annoying. Maybe the difference is that, by nature,

puertorricans are really curious and every time I go out I get the

stares and the fifty questions. The most difficult part is when

people don't understand why I banded Ignacio and respond to my

explanation that they believe it would have rounded up on its own

because they know someone that rounded up... Its fustrating.

I believe that we have to put a protective armor and let every

stare, every comment... just slide through. You have to remember

the main reason why you banded your son... for his own good, and

that should be enough to get you through this tough times. If not,

just think taht times really flies and just when you get accustomed

to all this it will come to an end and your son will have the round

head we are all hoping for.

Don't give up and always remeber that there are people that are in a

worse situation than us.
