Guest guest
My son has a completely flat head in the back and my pediatrician's only advice is to have him sleep on his side (which is proving very difficult as his preference is on his back - he manages to squirm his way back even with all the propping with rolled up blankets). He's 4 months old and I have not seen any improvement even with the repositioning. Doctor says he'll outgrow it and his hair will cover it - this I find frustrating. Guest guest
Hi, Welcome to the group! We do have members from Canada, so I hope they see your post subject line and respond with some helpful info. In the meantime, I just checked the HELMET/BAND DATABASE in the DATABASE section of the group, and didn't find any facilities listed in your province. There were, however, facilities listed in the provinces nearby. You can check the database out to see these facilities, and in some cases, members' emails who are willing to be contacted offlist about their experience. Perhaps one of these group members could help you locate a specialist, so I would encourage that you email a few of them! Anecdotally, I have heard that getting referrals and finding treatment can be challenged in Canada, so working those issues now, while your son is a young 4 months old is the right thing to do. I would definitely start taking top and side view photos every two weeks to document your son's continued lack of progress with repo. It's unfortunate that your doctor has taken that stance with the issue of plagio, because helmet treatment IS available in Canada, and you should be able to have access to such treatment. Is it possible that your doctor does not know that helmet treatment is available? We have at least 1/2 dozen locations in our Database already in the various Canadian provinces. Would it be possible to make him aware of what treatment is specifically out there, or could you change pediatricians? I wish I could be of more help to you. Would you keep us posted on your situation? Guest guest
Thanks for your advice I will keep track of his progress, also I have made an appointment with another doctor for next week and will keep you posted on that outcome. How long after you started repositioning did you notice a marked improvement in appearance? > > My son has a completely flat head in the back and my > pediatrician's > > only advice is to have him sleep on his side (which is proving > very > > difficult as his preference is on his back - he manages to squirm > > his way back even with all the propping with rolled up blankets). > > He's 4 months old and I have not seen any improvement even with > the > > repositioning. Guest guest
Hi, We started aggressively repositioning Remy when she was 5 months old, which is late to start repo. We took top and side view photos every two weeks, traced the headshape outline onto tracing paper, and laid the previous week's over it to check for progress. We noticed some change after a few weeks, but experienced a dramatic improvement overall from 5 months to 7 months of age. We saw some improvement from 7 to 9 months, and a little bit more from 8 - 11 monts. If you would like to see Remy's progress photos, they are in the PHOTOS section of the group, in the BEFORE AND AFTER folder, REPOSITIONED folder. Our repo was extremely aggressive. Remy was only on her back to change her diaper. In fact, nothing touched the flat area on the back of her head until she was about 13 months old, and that included the seatbacks of high-chairs, strollers, carseats, our arms when we held her, etc. We always turned her head off of the flat area with a rolled up towel, or positioned her off of the flat area as we held her. We did not use a bouncie seat or swing from 5 months on, either. I wish I had known about an innovative baby seat called the Bumbo Baby Sitter that can be used for babies 6 weeks or older - it puts no pressure on their head at all! The website is www.bumbobabyseat.com Some of our group members are currently trying this seat to help with repo. Please let us know how your son's appt. goes next week, and let me know if I can be of help with your repo efforts!
