But often a person *using* insulin will describe him/herself as insulin-*dependent*, which confuses us. If your friend's mother were a type 1 - in other words, if your friend's mother were insulin-*dependent* - Glucophage would be contraindicated because it would put wear and tear on the liver without doing any good. But it's perfectly fine for an insulin-resistant type 2 to use a combo of Glucophage and insulin to better manage her glucose control. I hope this helps. I stress the difference between insulin dependence and insulin usage because there can be grave consequences to being identified as insulin-dependent. I would, for example, lose my commercial driver's license and be denied work as a trucker if I were insulin-dependent. And I assure you that trucking companies are not hair-splitters. If they find out you USE insulin, you are instantly out of a job. Pilots are also out the door. Some people lose their regular driver's licenses if they are involved in an accident. An opposing attorney can claim that they are in poor control and hypoed. In addition, many employers do not want any diabetics on the payroll, let alone insulin users (again, they think in terms of " insulin-dependent " ). There is the widespread that diabetics - all diabetics - will gradually lose their health and bankrupt the company insurance system and miss a lot of work. And there is an assumption that insulin users will spend a lot of time fussing with needles and such. It's hard enough finding a decent job with health insurance, especially when one is middle-aged and overweight. It's hard enough explaining to other diabetics that diet alone can control diabetes in many instances. Imagine how difficult that would be for a non-diabetic prospective employer to accept. There are so many diabetics today. Everyone knows someone who went blind, went on dialysis, died young because of it. I think injected insulin makes a lot of sense. But I do caution other diabetics to be circumspect in letting others, especially those in the workplace, know about it unless they are certain it won't jeopardize their future. Guest guest
, so sorry for you. I know how much you will miss your Grandmother. My Great Grandma died a few years ago and it still hurts, but it does get easier with time. Time does heal. Hang in there and I will keep you in your prayers. God will comfort you if you ask. To see those little fingers and toes and smell that baby head lol ~ #2 (no subject) Hi Ladies! I'm going to have my tr very soon, hopefully. Reading the comments through out the day inspires me. So far I've read nothing but positives things about tr. My tubes were reversed 7 years ago minutes after my daughter was born...I never imagined craving a baby as I do now....
