Guest guest
Interesting thread about the graveyard shift, schedules in general, days off, etc. I am interested in hearing about what type of work schedule others have. Here we work 4 days and then are off 2. 4 weeks of 8 hrs shifts and then 2 weeks of 10 hr shifts. The 10 hrs shifts are flexible. Often I will work an 8 hr shift on one of my days off instead of tacking 2 hrs onto each shift for 4 days. We all have permanent shifts. I work 7AM til 3PM. I'm a morning person (I know some of you hate me for that!) so this shifts suits me fine. I bounced between all shifts for my first 3 years, then worked 3 years of 3PM to 11PM shift, and now I've been on days for 9 years. I worked my share of graveyard shifts early on, and even before that in communications in the Navy. That shift and I never got along too well! I'd like to hear about what type of work schedule others have. Guest guest
We have 9 fulltime Dispatchers, 1 Comm. Supervisor... We work 3 12hr shifts with 3 days off and rotate from days to graves every month. Most of us love it.... The 12hr shifts are worth the 3 days off every 3 days! This allows for 2 dispatchers on at all times. The Comm. Supervisor works 4 10's Sat-Mon off. Guest guest
There are those of us who would never work another shift. Of course, we may be vampires at heart, but I've worked midnights for almost 17 years and loved it. Most of the folks on my crew are also on mids by choice. I suppose one has to be of a particular personality - and the shift certainly has its own unique dynamic (just as dayshift and swing shift have their own unique personalities and dynamics) but any way in our case 98% of the folks on mids are their by seniority choice. Guest guest
Our policy manual specifically forbids that. We are restricted to working no more than 12 hrs straight, except in case of " emergency situations " , and no more than 12 hours in a 24 hour period. This includes outside employment as well. >> >> > Hate to say this.....but join the club...just be glad you not on 2 days >> > graveyard shift...get off friday morning at 7am and then have to come >back >> > at 3pm the same day! >> > -Mc >> > Swain Co Disp >> > North Carolina >> > My oppinions only
Guest guest
I agree with Randall....I have worked the midnites for ten yrs now. It is by choice, as it is with most of my officers on my road patrol. We are a different breed...fed by adrelanin and caffeine...;-) I like to think of my road patrol as " guardians of the night " . I " live " for the " bad calls " for I think it keeps me sharp. Sure, there are nights where not much happens...but one good heart-pumping midnite call makes up for all the lost minutes in cleaning and warrant entries. Glad to meet yas Randall...from one drac to another.....~~~~> passing on some sunglasses...! too dang bright out in the a.m. hours...hehe. Cin in good ole Ohio happy day, be safe! Guest guest
Just signed it - 3 more years! We held out for the County to pay our full health coverage tho, for 3 more! So its not all bad, I guess. The natives were restless last night again, so day shift may be interesting. We'll see.
