Oh well,

I guess I'm not getting any.

I was just kidding.

Be well.

Everyone,

There are many prostate cancer charities

that can use your help. If you have money that you plan to donate before the

end of the year, remember them. We are all hampered in what we can do by lack of

funds.

Kathy M.

Just had to add some comment to this post.

At a local man to man meeting, in attendance was one, a Assistant Surgeon General (to Koop) , now residing in Fl. who made some startling statements about contributing to anything Cancer.

There is so much money spent (mostly government & business tax deferrements) on the recognized centers ie; National Cancer Research Institute, National Cancer Association etc. etc. and those that have advocacy {not unlike what you do} that the little tens and twentys from everyone wanting to lick this disease is basically used up in administration. Money is being contributed to too many adjuncts (some are even unlawful) who continually send missiles from lists they no doubt obtain from what is a public source, and those monies do not make a dent in what the overall budget for those individual adjuncts need to continue to do what it is they do.

He went on to say that the monies collected for our local ' run for life' of over$1500 would not even make a water drop in the enormous bucket of want.

This group seems to have a plethora of advocates who seem to add to the obvious duplication of material presented here that is clearly redundant. Duplication of overlapping charity.

This gentleman went on to say that this system is defunct and needs a complete overhaul.

Just in this household alone we get approx. 3 or 4 letters a month of request for donations to this group and that group..... so it is readily easy to see that this disjointed effort has created a monstrous overhead that if it is necessary for everyone to give, they should know that their gift is not wasted on superfulous paperwork.

He said that his Washington office was even indulged in prosecuting fraudulent solicitation and had some success in their effort, but overall the National Cancer Institute needs to re- define its need and objectivity.

I send what I can to the National Foundation For Cancer Research, Wash. D.C. (and even then there are several different P.O. box nubers they use? Confusion personified.

Thank you for the comment Bill. I wrote to a Dr Barken asking if he

knew of a connection between my previous occupational radiation

exposure and my prostate cancer. I received a reply back that

stated; basically for a " donation " he would research it and get back

to me.

I wrote to the Huntsman's institute too. They haven't asked for

anything yet and provided me with some very helpful links to

research and etc..

I am not working, nor am I on a government teat, pension or anyother

freebie. Groups in general with their hand out are just as your

friend described; pretty much covering their admin costs and they

are duplicated; numerously from what I have found.

On a lighter and less expensive note: I participated in a 13.1 mile

half marathon (a timed event); when completed, I went on to add an

additional 3.1 to it for today's perscribed training pre-schedule

distance for today.

I swear, at one point I had tears of joy in my eyes from being

alive, feeling alive and able to do something like that. Thanks for

letting me share.
