Guest guest
Which lanset are you using the #1 setting doesnt hurt but it also doesnt get any blood. The company I bought my stuff with (DVD) says use a number three setting so what lancet brand do you use? sharon Re: Sore Fingers Judith, I use a lancet holder that has a dial, you can make the poke very light at 1 and it goes all the way up 6 for very tough fingers, I guess. I use the lowest number and can hardly feel the prick at all. (I poke a LOT - sometimes up to 10x a day -- and I type for a living so I really need to baby my fingers!) Check at your nearest drugstore for a lancet holder of this type...several brands now make it. (I got mine at Walgreen's). Costs about $13. (We're talking about the poking lancets for BGs now, not syringes, right? I change syringes with each use.)
Guest guest
I am answering the question again...my message never went through last night. The messages ARE being sent...they are in my sent folder. This time I am posting it on e-groups instead of through my ISP. He is a little uncomfortable doing it right now. I think he is feeling a little overwhelmed. He will be doing it after out visit to the endocrinologist Friday. They can show him how to do the shots. We have not really had much instruction doing this. We were only shown how to do it once in the emergency room. No practice whatsoever. Also, when we first started doing this, he was in bed and was not able to get up and do them himself....he has had a bad chest cold on top of all this. > In a message dated 00-12-06 22:34:40 EST, you write: > > << > I am getting better at doing the shots. Guest guest
One thing I have found that has helped immensely with sore fingers is something I learned from another list. I use the same lancet. Repeated uses just make that lancet sharper & finer. This, in addition to all the suggestions that have been listed here - ultra-thin lancets, washing with warm, soapy water first, hanging your arm down, applying a tourniquet of a rubber band above the first joint - should aid in your problem of sore fingers. Guest guest
Judith, do you have an adjustable lance? I found the lancets frrom Lifescan are very good, I heard the WalMart ones were good from a friend. Guest guest
Donna, I use 120 grit production paper (sandpaper) to remove thick skin and callous. I grasp the stuck finger with the thumb of that hand, and the thumb and forefinger to squeeze a drop up. I also don't use much blood half a drop? Sam .. Guest guest
Hi, Judith. I am wondering, if you use the same lance more than once, doesn't that prevent you from getting a pure reading on subsequent tests? Well, if you look at one microscopically, you'd see that the end gets a little bend, and the reason you get blood easier is maybe because it makes a slightly larger hole, both going in and going out. Guest guest
Sheila, I would never share a lancet with anyone, but they are stainless, seem to have no blood left on them, Sam
Guest guest
I have a penlet II, yes - I looked last night at the box of lancets - I'd bought some initially before I got mine from Kaiser. Turns out Kaiser doesn't provide the ULTRA FINE ones - they just say lancets. I'm going to have to see if I can get the ULTRA FINE ones from them ... sheesh. Guest guest
Judith, I recommend wholeheartedly the One Touch lancets. theyare also listed as a fine point version. I got 200 samples from them. I have the B & D ultrafine, they are not as good. Sam
