Guest guest
Hi Cheryl! Visualize this: A lounge chair, umbrella, sun screen and laptop computer under a coconut tree - the sound of Hawaiian music in the background. Sand crabs dancing in and out of the surf under a clear blue sky. Doesn't that sound good? In reality, dump the coconut tree - those things are dangerous to set under; sand and laptops do not mix; and Hawaiian music makes me crazy. In reality I sit at a computer next to the window, 2 blocks from the beach, my reference book and study table are to my right. I have a flock of caged parrots behind me, cheering me on (and interfering with the voices of the dictators). The most interesting thing about this home " office " is the herd of tortoises outside the window, going about life unstressed, their only worry is when the next mango will fall from the tree and provide lunch. Oh, and I am a 50+ year old, post-menopausal broad who decided that I needed the challenge of a new career and really WANTED to learn 10,000,000 new medical words! You are right this is a nice group of caring people, all bound by a common MT denominator. Guest guest
Ok picture this, but I must say it is not near as nice as Pam's picture. We just bought a brand new really BIG desk which has my computer, laster printer, fax machine, inkjet printer, books and assorted odds and ends. I sit in front of a window and can watch the birds play and sing. In a chair next to mine my cat is usually sleeping. I have a fan blowing on me (always hot here in Phoenix) and my favorite radio station on. I sit here and type happily away (well, happily most of the time, except today when I was having brain damage from banging my head against the wall). In all honesty I don't know what I would do w/o all of you. This is a GREAT group of people. val Re: Worried/NMTC > Hi Cheryl! Guest guest
Val, What fun, we both have the cats and the birds together at the same time, well separated by windows anyway. I also have a very good ceiling fan. My office is the smallest room in the house, so I put in a very small ceiling fan with six blades, at larger than average angles. It is called a vortex and boy it can put out the air. It is wonderful, even if it doesn't get as hot here in Raleigh as it does in Phoenix. This way, I don't have to have the temperature down quite as low in the summer so it saves on those air conditioning bills. Guest guest
Margaret, too funny, I feed the birds outside and my cat (indoor only) just loves watching them too! I got married rather late in life (age 29 the first time) and lived happy alone for years w/my cats and dog). val Re: Worried/NMTC > > > > Hi Cheryl! Guest guest
Okay, I'll pitch in. Picture this: I've been alone for forever (at least the last 30 years) and love it. No kids. Very quiet life. I'm in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains on 60 acres. (I rent). My house is very small but the office window at which I sit looks out across a 3-acre pond with a dock. Ducks (and soon some babies), great blue herons, hawks, jumping fish, bats, bears, coyotes, deer, and eagles keep me entertained. The mountain lions and fox don't show their shy noses but rarely -- I haven't seen them yet, but they lurk. Birds dance off the end of the dock trying to catch yummy morsels that fly by. The Kingfisher even dives into the water for smackerels, making grand splashes. I often hear the neighbor's peacocks and turkeys having discussions up the hill, and they occasionally visit. Within two feet of me, right outside my window, is a hummingbird feeder which is VERY entertaining and active. In the tree hangs a bag of nesting materials which the birds love to pick from. I feed the other birds outside the window too that also use the bird bath. I often have to stop whatever I'm doing to enjoy the shows. (They are SO persnickety about their appearance!) Occasionally, Smokey The Rental Cat wanders by outside the window, briefly looks in, says hi, and wanders off on A Secret Expedition. We're extremely close and he's become quite the cuddler. Mr. Landlord doesn't allow indoor pets, however, so he's an outsider, much to my chagrin. That's Pat's Paradise in a nutshell. Er, uh, email. patb Pat's Paradise Courtesies of a small and trivial character are the ones which strike deepest in the grateful and appreciating heart. Guest guest
Wow Pat...that is quite a show you have going on. I have only my birdfeeders to rely on and the routine dogwalkers to keep me entertained. I am soooo ready to get out of suburbia Chicago and you remind me why...We are looking to relocate out west as well. Did I mention that I am the self-appointed Gladys Kravis of the neighborhood. I live right next to my son's school and have many elderly neighbors, so if anything is out of order or the mysterious, slow cruising vehicle goes by the school, I jump into an alert stage immediately. Someones gotta do it...Keeps me stimulated. Who needs a soap opera. Cheryl, CMT
