Guest guest
Thanks Margaret...I feed the birds too. My little Cavalier King Spaniel, the sweet thing sleeps in her bed right behind my chair. She is so spoiled and cute, that she will sometimes come to my chair and bat her big, browns at me until I scoot up and let her sit in my chair with me. This is horrible ergonomics and even more horrible on my back. What can I say...I am a sucker for my little 4-legged companion. Guest guest
I'm getting such mental pictures of yall. Ok, so picture this for me.. I have this huge corner desk ... to make room for 2 computers (my personal puter and the Edix computer). I have 2 KB drawers (one for each puter), a big printer/scanner/copier/fax machine, my phones, caller IDs, various and sundry speakers for both puters, the towers with the hard drives are under the desk on the floor (no room anywhere else). Behind me is a small cabinet that's an antique and used to belong to my " Aunt Looselooey " as my brother used to call her (Lucy).. that has all my gajillion dictionaries with my Stedmans arranged in alpha order (of course). Next to me is a huge kennel with a 123 lb. Rottweiler, Princess.. my sweetie who THINKS she's a lap dog LOL, and underfoot are my other dog Gabby (Pomeranian/Heinz57), and my 3 cats. That's my.. uhhh.. office, and I use that term loosely. It's actually an alcove in my house that I think was meant to be a dining room, but I can't imagine fitting any dining room table in here, but we live in a 2 bedroom condo, so none of the rooms are that big. Over my printer, I can look across the room and out the window to my trees with birds in that my cats love to watch, and it faces the street so I get to watch all the comings and goings of my neighbors. Oh yes, and behind me are the two huge hanging bookshelves my husband built and put up that have my books in. I'm an avid reader.. le Steel, Nora /J.D.Robb, Sidney Sheldon, Constance O'Day-Flannery.. Star Trek books.. my taste kinda runs the gamut Do you have a mental picture now? Jan " Typing is my life "
Guest guest
I have FOUR cats, all spoiled rotten, of course, and three kids, two of which still live at home for only a few more years (sniff sniff). I have a huge desk in my little itty bitty office and it holds about 26 reference books, a book case packed with another 31 reference books, all of my periphery equipment, a file cabinet, and small bookcase that has just been collecting catalogs and magazines for several years, and a lot of junk that really really needs to be cleaned out of here - all work related, but collecting dust and needing to be either stored away properly or disposed of. The cats tend to come in and demand my attention at various times of the time. Gato (real original, huh?) is the whiner and also the baby - he comes into my office, looks at me, and whines, wanting his food feeder tipped so it fills the bowl (never mind that he could stick his paw in there and move it all down himself). After awhile if I don't do it, he'll stop whining and do it himself. Sometimes he just wants attention and comes and sits on my lap. He's so cute!! Buddy is my little hellion - I swear I need some kitty Ritalin for that boy. He is sooooooo hyper - does everything fast. He's my boy that likes to jump up on my desk and knock everything everywhere...or sit in front of my monitor until I pay attention to him (it usually just gets him taken off the desk and put onto the floor). He drives me nuts at times. Keela is so old and fat (as of last May, he was 16 pds and probably at least that, if not more, the little porker!) that he can't jump up on my lap very often. Occasionally he wants my attention, but usually just waits until I " m in bed and then comes in and bugs me (translate - lays on my chest almost suffocating me with his weight!). Lastly is Pippy. He loves my attention and will nuzzle my elbow and put his paws up for me to pick him up (and then he stretches as I pick him up). He loves to sit on my lap for about 5 minutes and cuddle. He's my cuddler and really, even though you aren't supposed to have favorites, he's my favorite. He'll jump off my lap after 5 minutes or so, go eat, and then may or may not want back up. Usually he just mews and wants me to go let him outside again (he LOVES the outdoors and as soon as the sun rises, he wants to go outside - God forbid I don't let him out...he rattles the blinds and has ruined quite a few blind pieces on them trying to get us to let him out). He's a sweetie and I think very cute, too. Other than the cats, I have my kids and my little office and just live this happy, although very very very busy life (I think I forgot to mention I homeschool, too), busy transcribing away and getting ready to take classes this summer, too (am working on prerequisites and when those are done, it's on to physician's assistant school). I " m enjoying the single life, just me and my kids and my house and my job and my church and having a great life. D
Guest guest
Okay since you all are sharing and I gave a silly answer earlier AND I am finally done w/ that tape.........still have others........docs I have been doing though. THANK GOD! Here is my wonderful visualization: Picture a messy house w/ toys all over the floor. A 3 y/o running around while I am transcribing yelling look at me, look at me! Watch me mommy......see how I do this? A 6 m/o baby who is very good natured (unlike my 3 y/o----bless her sweet little heart). I have a golden retriever....Buddy.....he usually just lays around.....getting old. Got a cat named Gabby....named her that because she is constantly meowing.....very sweet cat. As far as my office, hehe well the room I am in is huge and adjacent to the TV room. It is mostly a play room more than an office. I only use about 1/4 of the room. My desk sits on 1 wall and is cluttered to the max!!! I really need to spend a day and organize it, but when the heck do I have time!! Anyways, you guys probably think I am a slob right about now, but actually I am quite clean. My mom is always telling me to take a break and quit cleaning!!! Lately though I have been so busy I have let things go a bit. Anyways, that is my visualization. It is quite hectic around here. Of course, not right now at 1 in the a.m. and that is usually why I am working late at night. This gal don't sleep much let me tell ya!!!! Guest guest
Cheryl, I have decided that everyone on this list is very young and absolutely gorgeous. We all work at home because we don't want to work out in public and have to beat all of those males off us because we are so attractive. We all have beautiful tans (except for those who are worried about skin cancer), and of course none of us works more than a few hours per day (just as the commercials say). We are all incredibly rich and do this just for the fun of it. Sound good? Well, as a friend of mine once said, " If you're going to dream, dream big. " Actually, I am one of those women who lives alone and loves it, just me and my two cats, who just really are no help whatsoever when it comes to doing this job. Because I have a nice office with a great view of my small yard (I live in a newer townhouse), with a very young tree right outside my window, I have recently taken up the hobby of feeding and watching the birds. The cats are indoor only, so this is safe. The cats just have a ball watching the birds, but the slightest little movement inside the office can sometimes get a whole flock of birds to fly away very quickly. So picture me in a nice office with a corner desk (so the monitor doesn't obstruct the view out the window), with my two cats on my desk, looking out the window at the birds and answering questions on NMTC. Have a great night everyone. Margaret
Guest guest
Cheryl, consider yourself lucky that you have a true lap dog! I have two 50 pound Vizslas (Hungarian Pointer dogs) that want to be close when I am typing - one squeezes between me and the back of the chair and the other one tries to climb in my lap! Did I mention the blind Abyssinian kitty who likes to sit on the keyboard when I take a break? Y'all can add ZOO to that visualization. Aloha! Guest guest
Okay, well here goes with my visual . . . got your Pepto-Bismol ready, ladies and gentelmen?? My " office " is actually in our basement, which is also our oldest son's toy room, which is also going to eventually be our family room (when we finish the basement off to be livable), which is also our laundry room. I have 4 small windows, one of which my desk is under (nice big L-shaped, oak sorta thing), half a ton of soda cans sitting on my desk (I'm a horrible caffeine hog and never remember to take the stupid things back upstairs to recycle), my reference books piled around, usually all turned to some page or another, my printer, desk phone, cell phone, fax, scanner, cable modem box, Zip drive, router and hub, and box of Kleenex, along with a bunch of framed pics of my kiddos and a couple of my favorite Beanie Babies and Prayer Bears. To my immediate right is my doll house that my mom built for me when I was 12. I don't have a daughter, but I'm saving it for when/if I ever have a granddaughter. Next to that is my great-great grandmother's black ash rocking chair. My youngest son's playpen sits behind me so he won't freak out that he can't see me. My 5 y/o is usually running around pretending to be Buzz Lightyear or one of the Thundercats. Behind me and to the right is my hubby's desk, which is an oak rolltop (absolutely gorgeous) and next to that is my sewing table and crafty section. The main part of the basement is devoted to the entertainment stand and couch and a bazillion toys (less upstairs!!) I, of course, am drop-dead beautiful. A right regular body-double of Crawford. :-) I'm 30 years old, shoulder-length brown hair that is falling out in clumps (thanks to those wonderful post-pregnancy hormones that have been raging since LAST August!) I'm usually dressed in sweats, a sweatshirt with my favorite blue slippers. Oh wait, did I say body-double?? I meant to say double the body . . . hehehe As for pets, my Border collie Katy is usually kinda just hanging out or chasing (the 5 y/o) around the basement, making so much noise that I can't hear. My cross-eyed blue-point Himalayan, andra () doesn't normally come out of my bedroom during the day and NEVER comes down to the basement. Heaven forbid she might get her little pawsy-wawsys dirty. That's me in a nutshell (or funny farm or loony bin, your choice!) But, I love my career and, other than just raising my kids to be somewhat normal denizens of society, I can't see myself doing much of anything else! I absolutely adore this group and would be lost without them (cuz I hate to stop and ask for directions . . . no wait, that's my hubby . . .nevermind!) Hope y'all have a wonderful evening!! Guest guest
Okay, I couldn't resist. It's nice that we all enjoy the way our lives are run! Anyway, I have two desks set up at a right angle in the corner of my living room. My husband also works at home, and his office is in the family room! We talk to each other over AOL Instant Messenger instead of screaming into the next room. My computer desk has a few Beanie Babies, pictures of my husband, kids, nieces, and nephew. I took the doors off the cabinet, and that is where I keep my word books and other references. I have a 7-year-old daughter and a 3-year-old daughter. My 3-year-old does not let me get much work done when she is awake. My 8-year-old Rottweiler stays outside during the day and sleeps from the moment he comes in the house. My 13-year-old cat sleeps all day. Oh, and I can't say that I am exactly svelte, seeing as I am already starting to show with my third child. At 5 feet 1 inch, I can assure you that at 7 months people will start telling me " you look like you're ready to have that baby! Guest guest
ACK!! I hear ya both! My first son (when I was 20, adopted by his aunt and uncle out of state) was 9 lbs, 6 oz, 4 days late, and I was huge. I only gained 20 pounds with him, but at 6 months, I looked ready to pop. My second son was 9 lbs, 10 oz, 7 days late, and I gained 20 pounds. Again, at 5-6 months, I was huge. With my third son, he was 9 lbs, 8 oz, 10 days late, I gained only 13 pounds, but I wasn't nearly as big as with the first two. I carried him way different, I swore he was gonna be a girl (until the US said otherwise!). Plus, the fact that he was born in August in Texas, WHEW!! But, I'm still lugging around baby fat, a little bit dedicated to each baby. Cuz, ya never know when one of them might need a fat transplant and I'll be the first to sign up to donate! Guest guest
I am just getting to read all these today and thoroughly enjoying them. I too noted the pets. It took quite awhile for me to read them all and mom is stirring which means I have to get her up and dressed before she decides to go back to bed and wilt. But I was grinning and had to share. Oh, as I read these I am getting an ad from Juno from the Audibon society and they have birds tweeting as a background. Could not have been better timing.
