I was just about to ask if anyone else on the NorthEast corridor was hammered

with " the sky is falling " phone calls.

We took several, most thinking that a plane was crashing.

I work in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, and we received approximately 10

calls regarding the meteor, one of the dispatchers that was on his way to

work saw it and said it was amazing. It apparently hit the ground a few

hours north of here, and according to a state agency, I believe the Emergency

Management Agency it was spotted from Philadelphia to counties, which

are about 3 hours apart. Must have been a heck of a show!

None fell in California to my knowledge, however I did notice something kinda

strange -- calls that were being placed in one county (Solano) were coming in

through Santa Clara cell sites -- I don't know exact mileage but I think its

about 100 miles away.

Marin County calls were all coming through San Francisco sites -- maybe 35

miles away.

And LOTS of static -- more static than I ever remember except when I had a

radio microwave going down.

Reports were on the news last night. Guess they were getting a lot of calls

about it. Heard it was northern Va. and even up to DC. Wish I could see them.

They described it as a big ball of fire.

Apparently those in NJ, PA, & DE were treated to a special light show last

night. It seems a rather large meteorite made it's way into the earths

atmosphere and crashed into a cornfield (what was left of it), creating a

spectacular fireball across the sky. Many saw it and called the news and 9-1-1.

Either that or the Men In Black were too slow with their flashy thing and

we've all witnessed an " unauthorized entry " !! hehe

check www.nbc10.com for the news story.

Meteor shower pandemonium hit here (central PA) around 6pm, Monday the 23rd.

The County 911 center, along with PA State Police stations received numerous

reports of a possible plane down. Local fire and EMS units chased the

" elusive plane " for several hours!

One caller to 911: " I know it (the supposed plane) was too low, there's no

way it cleared the mountain. "

Other sightings in , Juniata, and Tioga Counties. Some reported pieces

as big as a " Jeep Cherokee " .

The local paper, (sorry, not on line) carried a lengthy story this morning

(Tues).

This particular heavenly show is known as the " Perseids " and occurs each

year at this time. Peak time to see it is around August 11th or 12th. But,

as we found out last night, sightings can occur for up to a month before and

a month after these dates.

So, heads up, East Coast, the fun has just begun!

Take Care and Stay Safe,

Angie Rudy
