I don't really know if Michigan requires it or not - some of us oldtimers

were certified some years ago, but they have never sent us to renew our

certification so I don't know if it's still in force!

The State Police are supposedly going to have a Dispatcher Certification

and licensing course that is mandatory. THat is supposed to start up some

time this summer.

More on that as we get it.

in illinois, a telecommunicator must be EMD certified but there is no

requirement that the agency provide EMD. go figure. i'm not sure how soon

after employment the EMD certification must take place.

Delaware passed a law at the end of the 2000 Legislative Session mandating

the use of EMD for all Dispatch Centers receiving EMS Calls. All Centers

must meet National Academy of EMD Center of Excellence Accreditation by

January 2002.

I am pretty sure Michigan does not require it. I am interested in

finding out more about what the MSP is going to require. Let me know.

That is pretty typical anywhere in MI. It took me years to get my

agency to spring for EMD. Now I am trying to get them to require it,

but that is another long process.

How do you like Powerphone's courses. I do not like their EMD. But I

haven't looked into any of their other courses. If you get to go to

the class, let me know how it went and if you would recommend it.

Thanks- we all love our jobs, but you have to live with the politics too.

I wish TX would make it a requirement...maybe then our dept would be

more willing to implement it...i feel our service is inadequate

without the policy.

I work only police and fire. We do not have to be EMD certified. I believe that

TN may require EMD certification if you provide EMD dispatch. If the agency

does not do EMD, TN does not require public safety communicators there to be

EMD certified.
