Guest guest
Hi Charley, Is it 100% Bovine insulin? If so they still manufacturer it in England. I can give you info on how to get it, if it is the same thing. HTH
Guest guest
Welcome to the group, Charlie! It's a matter of economics. If only 5% of diabetics are using a certain insulin, there is no incentive to keep offering it. Insulins have different names in different countries. It was one made from animals, I think? I'm not an insulin user. The Humulin formulations I show from the Eli Lilly chart are R, N, L, U, 70/30, and 50/50. Can you tell us more about which one you're using? They're all quite different from each other. Susie
Guest guest
Susie, For 42 years I took 50 units of NPH. Now I take N Humilin, 65 units per day to do the same thing. I talked to the Lilly company and they sent me a graph showing the duration of all insulins. Humilin N is closely comparable to Iletin NPH but I do not do as well on the Humilin. Any ideas to make it work better for me? I am not a couch potato. Am not overweight and I get lots of exercise. I am 6 ft tall and weight 175 pounds. The Iletin is beef and pork. Thanks, Charley On Sun, 19 Nov 2000 08:18:20 -0700 " Susie M. " writes: > one made from animals, I think? I'm not an insulin user. Guest guest
On my Eli Lilly info, Humulin N is the same thing as NPH. They break it down like this: Humalog = insulin lispro injection Humulin R = Regular - human insulin injection Humulin N = NPH = human insulin (DNA origin) isophane suspension Humulin L = Lente - human insulin (DNA origin) zinc suspension Humulin U = UltraLente - human insulin (DNA origin) extended zinc suspension And then there are the 75/25, 70/30, and 50/50 mixes. Do you inject 2-3 times a day? How do you cover meals? Do you low-carb? Have you thought about a different regimen? Do tests show no pancreas action at all, or do you still have a somewhat-functioning pancreas? I am assuming you were diagnosed type 1, in your youth? Guest guest
Yes, according to what they say, they are equal but...my body knows the difference. My daughter has the same situation. She has been on insulin for 34 years. Even though they say it is the same, it is not. Thanks anyway, Charley On Sun, 19 Nov 2000 17:18:02 -0700 " Susie M. I didn't say that Iletin, which is derived from pigs and cows, is the same thing as Humulin, which has a human source. I try hard not to confuse people. That's why I write this. Now, tell us more about you and your daughter. We may be able to help! Susie
