Guest guest
Hi , The Da Vinci RP may have caused less surgical damage, but removing the prostate and seminal vesicles leaves one with the same side effects as the open RP. The prostate and seminal vesicles produce most of the ejaculate. The prostate has both muscle and glandular tissue. At orgasm the prostate contracts to force the ejaculate out. This is a part of the pleasure of sex that I have missed for the last 15 years. Yes, I am glad that I am still alive- though with my Gleason of 3+2 and a PSA of 10.2 I might well have still been alive if I had chosen Watchful Waiting instead of surgery. I still must wear pads due to incontinence. I think that is probably as bad or worse than the impotence. It can be very embarrassing if the pads become soaked and leak through to one's clothing. I strongly believe that there are better alternatives to treat PCa other than surgery. If you are newly diagnosed, before you climb up on that table, please take the time to research all your alternatives. Remember that whatever you choose will be what you will have to live with the rest of your life. I have doubts about the 87% figure you listed for those who have sex at six months. It may be possible if the person is using a Vacuum Erection Device or injections. But I seriously doubt that 87% of men are potent at six months without a Viagra like drug of some other aid. And for me and a lot of other men, to have an orgasm takes a whole lot of stimulation. I wish you all the bestAubrey Pilgrim, DC (Ret.) Wish Ihad known of this 2 years ago, although I did my research other ways, and feel like I knew all I needed to in order to deal with my PCa in away that was best suited to me. Guest guest
, I too had had robotic prostatectomy. Somehow, I anticipated that since the procedure is somewhat 'less invasive', I'd recover more quickly, and I'd also reduce the risk of incontinence and ed. SURPRISE! My expectations collided with reality! That took some adjustment. Gratefully, I did have intercourse within 6 months, thanx to good meds. Continence 95% restored mid-Dec 07 with AdVance Sling. I'm still quite tender and sensitive around the incision sites, but that will be gone within another couple weeks. Best to you and the group in the new year. Hans Lots of Activity here!!
