Hi -

I¹m wondering if any of you have had my sons experience with seizures and if

you can tell me what you did. My son has had 2 sleep deprived EEGs and 2 24

hour EEGs the most recent on April 13th. All have shown no seizure

activity. He has had 4 seizures in the past 2 years which have been deemed

febrile due to fever. On those occasions, the fever hit 103 in like 20

minutes and came down as about that fast. Today, however, he had a fever of

100 that stayed at that level. He went to lay down in his bed as when he is

not feeling good he likes to sleep. So, I had checked on him and he was

almost asleep and then 20 minutes later I checked on him again and he was

having a seizure. His fever was not high and I administered DiaStat

thinking he could have been seizing that whole 20 minutes. I did call 911

and we did go to the hospital and my neurologist gave me an Rx for Keppra.

My question is, have any of you had this same experience with seizures

nothing on the EEG and then your child having them with fevers (but not with

every fever) I¹m uncomfortable giving my child anticonvulsants which have

the same side effects that he already struggles with on a day-to-day basis

without meds. Wondering if there is anything that I can do to prevent them

during a fever besides trying to keep the fever down.

Any help, insight, ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Laureen
