In Monroe NJ we are given 3 pairs of pants, 2 long sleeve shirts, 2 short

sleeve shirts, shoes, a belt, 2 ties, a badge and a name plate. After your

first year you get $300 uniform allowance and $300 uniform maitenance.

When we wore a more " official " uniform, ties were also included. We're

now in pullover shirts with department emblem and slacks.

Although I prefer the official uniform, I must admit that the shirt and

slacks are much more comfortable to work in, and it makes it easier

for stops before and after work.

The safety factor took us out of uniform.

I, too, work for a state agency. Until 1995 give or take, we had no ID or

uniform. There were IDs issued in the 60s & 70s but were taken away. No real

reason was given other than the operators at that time were considered sworn

personel. Now, we have optional shirts. That is, some of us got them some

didn't, for whatever reason. The are polo shirts, very poor quality with the

Iowa State Patrol shield above the breast pocket (if one exists) and the word

Communications below it. Women got no option for shirt with pockets. Yes they

are comfortable, but the Patrol put their collective foot down and didn't want

us to have the same color shirt as theirs.

They ordered us to wear them so we took them to dry cleaners (they are wash &

wear) and submitted cleaning bills which were denied. We grieved and won so the

shirts were declared optional. What a joke.

Now they are working with Aramark to get a button down dress shirt of somewhat

the same design but colors NOT the same as the Patrol. Shirts, sweater

(optional) and that is it.

We have an ID card. Picture name etc, darn thing looks like a credit card on

steroids.

Hi Terry,

We have a $250 clothing allowance annually written into our union contract.

We used to wear a military-style uniform until we began having problems

being mistaken for law enforcement personnel. Now we wear polo-style shirts

with our embroidered department identification on them and slacks.

There has been no movement to reduce the amount of our allowance since we

changed uniforms and I suspect that there will not be in the future. There

is enough $$$ to purchase about five to seven shirts (we buy locally in a

group for a better rate) and two pair of uniform slacks (from a local

uniform store) per year, with some left over for other accessories (black

shoes and socks, etc.). There has never been enough to even look at

jackets, ties, hats, etc. This DOES permit us to all be wearing presentable

(i.e. not ragged or frayed) uniforms all the time.

and for those hot dogs like me that want to have warm station jackets and

radio harnesses for response into the field as Incident Dispatchers (the bulk

of which is dept supplied at no cost, but of couse some of us just gots ta

have that cool web gear for those long summer wildland drills!) there's an

additional outlay. Of course it's all tax deductable.

Still, it beats the heck out of buying new Dockers every six months!

I work for a relatively large county police department (1100 officers,

supposed to be 99 telecommunicators - hahahahaha). When we first make

permanent status, supply issues us:

8 short sleeve shirts (with patch on the shoulder)

8 long sleeve shirts (also with the patch)

8 pairs of pants

1 belt

2 clip on ties

1 pair of shoes or boots

1 sweater

We also get a name plate with a " serving since XXXX " under it.

Clothing is replaced as necessary.

The only clothing we are required to provide is undergarments and socks.

The department provides us with laundry service, picked up twice a week in

our building.

We wear khaki slacks and polo style shirts here in LaVergne. I am doing budget

right now, and we are asking for about $275 per person for uniform items.

Bob and others with embroidered patches on the shirt:

Do you have problems with curling? If not, can I get the name of the company

that does your embroidery? We had shirts with our patch on them, but they curled

fiercely! The newest shirts just have department name. I'd be interested in any

input from you guys with good embroidery.

My agency provides 4 summer shirts, 4 winter shirts 4 pants, tie, belt,

badge and name plate. Items will be replaced as they wear out. Per

contract we receive a $450.00/annual uniform allowance for up keep. We

received $225 twice a year, usually around May and October, this is also

when we changed between summer and winter uniforms.

We have to provide black belt, shoes, socks and turtle neck dicky (if we don't

like ties with our long sleeves).

I also have a blue knit sweater that was issued to us when I first started here,

but the department stopped providing those.

No clothing allowance/dry cleaning provided.

Now that we are primarily plain clothes we get:

1 short sleeve, 1 long sleeve, 2 pants, rain coat, winter coat, and sam browne

(if you ask). We provide black belt, shoes, socks, turtle neck

dicky. No clothing allowance/dry cleaning provided.

We get these so we can work security overtimes and other special events we might

be required to attend/work in which a uniform would identify

us.

We are supplied with 5 polo shirts w/your choice of color(grey, maroon,

black) that have the city logo on it and " communications " under it. Also the

CTO's have " CTO " embroidered on the sleeve. We get 3 pairs of pants (skirts

for the ladies if they so desire) and shoes. The city pays for it all.

We are supplied two long sleeve uniform shirts, two short sleeve shirts, four

pairs of pants, one sweater, your name tag, one badge with your senority

number, and one set of collar pins. You must purchase your own boots/shoes

and black belt. We are also given a cleaning allowance. Hope this helps.
