There are various forms of the operation.. surgery on just the uvula (uvuloplasty), surgery on the uvula and palate (uvulopalatoplasty), and surgery on the uvula, palate, and pharynx, which is uvulopalatopharyngoplasty, so it depends on what is being worked on as to what the name of the operation is. Guest guest
--- It's not in my dictionary either. Maybe it's too new. I found this in Rx.com: Geri uvuloplasty WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW Uvuloplasty (YOU-view-low-plas-tee) is surgery to remove the uvula---the small piece of tissue that hangs at the back of the throat. (When a laser is used, doctors call this surgery LASUP for short.) The procedure is done to help stop snoring or sleep apnea. If you still have your tonsils, the doctor will remove them as well. Guest guest
Waheed, I don't know which medical dictionary you are using, but according to Dorland's, uvula by itself is usually used to refer to the palatine uvula, which is the small, fleshy mass hanging from the soft palate above the root of the tongue. When a uvuloplasty is performed, it is usually done to help with sleep apnea or any kind of airway obstruction that may be occurring due to the size of the palatine uvula. I just thought this information might be helpful to you in the future if you ever do American medical transcription, to help you understand one of the things that is always understood. Margaret >>> " Aadil Information Technology " 04/12/01 03:38PM >>> uvuloplasty is correct. I do not know what part of the body bifurcated/split tissue has been operated. Maybe I could help if more information. waheed this word exist? > How would you spell *uvuloplasty* my spell check does not like it and it's not found in my medical reference book. > > Any help appreciated. > > val > > >
