Guest guest
Ken It may not be much consolation to you, but VSDs are the simplest of the heart defects to correct during open heart surgery for kids. It's a one-time deal and the kids grow well and perform like a " Normal " kid with all the energy that entails. It is scary though seeing your child in the ICU and waiting for them to pull through and knowing all the risks and complications. My daughter had 2 open heart surgeries so I know how difficult it can be. They both went very poorly but that's completely because her surgery was much more extensive than what closing a VSD entails. But my prayers are with and your family all the same. I too understand completely about all your thoughts. Our dr appts are screwed up all the time too even though we usually have an appt card. The card doesn't do any good if the dr isn't there that day. I too wish I could bear all the pain my child has had to endure. The initial shock and pain we felt in the beginning has dulled now when she needs tests and surgeries. It's a different pain now. It's not the " Omigod will she survive " pain but an " Omigod here we go again " pain. Made worse by seeing youngsters in the waiting room going in for their one and only surgery in their life (usually tubes), and they're being sent home hours upon hours earlier than Caitlyn because Caitlyn is such a high risk patient. And finally, I want to say that I really appreciate hearing such devotion from a dad. Sadly, most dads prefer to remove themselves from the situation either emotionally, physically, or both, but you are certainly not one of those dads. Your friends will deal, you need to be where you need to be right now.
