Guest guest
For me Wind Beneath My Wings. Its a song for a lot of breast cancer patients/survivors and played at a lot at the bc races. When I was a little girl I wanted t be a singer, with all my heart. I was sitting next to the radio (one of those big, old console ones, remember them?) singing to the Beatles' "Yesterday" with all of me, when I overheard my parents talking...Dad ~ Who's that? Mom ~ Akiba, she wants to be a singer when she grows up Dad ~ Singer? She can't carry a tune in a bucket! End of career. I never sang again. Ever. I *still* can't sing without crying, and I'm 52. Oh, I did go to a singing instructor, many years later, who told me I have perfect pitch and a very good ovtave range. So I guess I really could have carried that bucketed tune, after all. I developed a vast inferiority complex after that, with that comment he took my confidence. I got over it, though. "Somewhere", from West Side Story, as sung by Barbra Streisand, is kinda a theme song of mine, especially since Rob and I tend to move around quite a bit, and will be again, probably soon. Our lease just went on month-to-month, and I know developers have been trying to buy the place. Our landlord assures us that we have at least 4-5 years we can live here before they do anything with it, but I also know that if he's offered enough...well...so we are looking, we'd love to find a place to buy and homestead, have to be owner financed, but with Robbin AND me on SSI we can at least make payments without too much worry...food might be another thing, so we'll just have to grow our own LOL... Anyway, I'm rambling now... What songs have meaning to you? Guest guest
What a crappy thing for your dad to say about your singing, Akiba. I'm sorry. So you liked the Beatles? Aren't you and I close to the same age? I'm 55 but I know you're younger. I saw the Beatles in person! They were in concert in Las Vegas and my parents took me and a friend to the concert. WOW! It was so exciting. Our seats were 4 or 5 rows back from the stage and we sat right behind Liberace and his niece. He was so nice to us, talking to us for a long time. I was sooo enthralled. After the concert my friend and I ran out and around to the bay where the limos drive in and out. We were RIGHT there when the limo drove out and we ran along side (screaming) and Lennon was closest to us and was laughing and smiling, pointing at us and waving at us until they finally went too fast for us to keep up. I can't believe I wasn't run over. lol The front lawn of the convention center was littered with bodies of concert goers passed out as medics tended to them. Just a little side not to your story....hugs)))Sharon ---- Original Message ----- From: Akiba To: MSersLife@yahoogrou ps.com Sent: Sunday, February 18, 2007 12:34 PM Subject: Songs You know, all this talk about songs...it is funny how sometimes a song can denote a specific period in one's life...when Rob and I were having problems many years a go, the song "Unbreak My Heart" was played about a thousand times (until he did). Guest guest
I Love the Beatles! I'm 52, so yes, we're close in age. I also loved Davy from the Monkees (teehee) Who have I seen in concert? Well, lemmesee...on my 18th birthday we went to a nightclud and saw the Fifth Dimention, I've also seen Journey (now THAT was cool, but I did get a contact high!) I also DID see the Monkees in a reunion tour...they were playing out in a field somewhere (how the mighty have fallen) and looked like crap (they did NOT age well). When I was in Spain I was the translater for Oliver (sang Good Mornihg Starshine), he was a pompous boob. and for ny (not the booze, the singer) as well as many European "stars" I dated Julio Iglesias when I was 15. We talked about his ambitions, he said he wanted "to conquer the United States" (as a singer) and I told him the *first* thing he needed to do was learn English. SO every time I hear the song he sang with Willie I have to grin, since I AM one of the girls "he loved before"Peace and Blessings~*~ Akiba ~*~Pragmatic Visionary & Eternal Optimist!http://yodamamma.blogspot.com/http://www.solay-twinflames.com/ Songs You know, all this talk about songs...it is funny how sometimes a song can denote a specific period in one's life...when Rob and I were having problems many years a go, the song "Unbreak My Heart" was played about a thousand times (until he did).
