Guest guest
One of my husbands classmates asked what was wrong with his wife (me). My husband keep a straight face and said what do you mean wrong. Pat said I didn't mean it like it sounded. (like I was crazy or some thing). My husband said he was just playing around with him. Then he went on to tell him about PLS. After Pat said he was sorry to hear about me, but was glad that we could joke about it. If you can joke about your problems you might not cry so much. Or keep asking why me? As many of you know its serious disease. But if you can't laugh once in awhile living with PLS can be a real drag. I have learned more about dealing with PLS on this site then any doctor could tell me, They said PLS? I've never treated anyone with it before I'll have to look it up in the books. Which tell you the medical terms, not how to deal with it or any of the symtoms. Jokes and stories make people laugh and forget for awhile that thier different now. The titles say jokes on them. Don't open them.Skip them and go on. But when you can't leave the house as easy anymore, it's nice to 'listen' to other people talking, seriously, joking and dealing with their life's problems just like the rest of us. This site is alot like a conference meeting, if you don't like all the classes you skip them. But all the classes will be filled with somebody thats interested. Hope you will understand that some people need the lighter side of conversations to deal with a stressful topic. Also if you don't want to hear me answering back, with a computer you can delete me and not be rude. Smile a day keeps the blues away. Have a nice day Melony
Guest guest
I'm surprised to see this brought up again. Last time there was similar discussion, PLSers-NEWS was created for medical, and purely serious conversation. With the addition of " NEWS " , it leaves 'FRIENDS " as the support group open for whatever we need or want to share. I, for one, usually skip over the jokes, but that's my choice. Guest guest
Dear Elana, I know it might be hard for some to understand jokes but jokes and other silly things are part of physical, mental, and emotional health. Even my doctors agree with this. When I have to think only of my disabilities, I have PLS and Rheumatoid Arthritis, I get very depressed. I also think it makes others around me feel more comfortable. When I go to Mayo Clinic on the 17th of this month I will be more than happy to share what what the doctors have to say. But to be perfectly honest, just living with these 'things' that I have every day makes me not want to talk about it all the time. A good joke makes me feel better and gives me something else to think about other than the pain I experience every day, my falls, etc. (or arrrrg - politics) I'm sorry if you disagree but I feel laughter is relevant to any illness. Take care. kathy hillary Glassman wrote: > I am Elana Glassman, a wife of one of your members. > > It never ceases to amaze me that some of you continue to send jokes, etc. > instead of concentrating on sharing information that is relevant to your > illness. > > Are you should be aware, many important doctors, individuals have already > gotten fed up with the silly messages regarding things like cats and blondes > and have asked to be taken off this list. > > Chat about silly things off this list please. > > Fw: blonde joke > > > > Eleven women were clinging precariously to a wildly swinging rope > > suspended > > > from a crumbling outcropping on Mount Everest. Guest guest
Dear Kathy: Even the care giver understands the importance of sharing jokes and new friendships found on this wonderful new form of communication. Please continue to share them -- but on an individual (or perhaps separate list) basis. The fact is: the list has lost important resources. I know of one prominent researcher who asked to be taken off the list because he simply does not have the time to go through all the many e-mails which have nothing to do with his research. Also, Joe Alberstadt who has done so much for the cause has been absent. Today, there have been two reports today of encouraging research -- the ALS experiment with mice as well as a stem-cell use from cadavers which I heard on NPR this morning. There is hope for some kind of a cure in our time. I want my husband to someday walk with his eight month old baby girl. Let's keep this line open for people to share illness related information in hopes of helping one another. We will continue to do likewise. On a political note, please everyone get out and vote for the platform that will best support research here in the USA. Whether you like him or not, Al Gore is the only logical conclusion. I support you and your struggle. You may always reach me at elanaglassman@.... Guest guest
Sorry but that's what keeps us going through tough times .We need light joke and news together. ---------- > > To: PLS-FRIENDSegroups > Subject: Re: Fw: blonde joke > Date: Sunday, November 05, 2000 9:53 PM > > I am Elana Glassman, a wife of one of your members. > > > Fw: blonde joke > > > > > Eleven women were clinging precariously to a wildly swinging rope > > suspended > > > from a crumbling outcropping on Mount Everest. Guest guest
---I agree with you Kathy, we should be able to have some fun on this sight. If you want to just get news of PLS then you can go to the PLS news group. Guest guest
Meloney: Thanks for your kind words. These few people who are complaining, would not have appreciated me walking into a 4 star hotel in CT, wearing a witches hat and carrying a broom. It was received and accept so graciously. What a fun moment for me, and I hope every one else enjoyed. The witches hat went to West Virginia, with Jeanne Ann's daughter. So come on people, don't take life so serious.
