I have had to look up all the street drugs for one of my clients, a drug and

alcohol rehab center. I have truly had my eyes opened to the number of drugs

out there. Ecstasy (methylenedioxymethamphetamine)is not capitalized, but you

will still find those who prefer it that way. Most street names for drugs are

not capitalized. It's abbreviation is MDMA. Hope that helps. Jean

Diane, Thanks for the link, that is the National Institute on Drug Abuse,

National Institutes of Health, information page on ecstasy, which is MDMA and is

also known as Adam and XTC. I have decided not to capitalize it or put it in

quotes, as it is being included in a list of substances that the patient abuses

which include marijuana, cocaine, and alcohol. I think if it was listed alone,

I would put it in quotes. Thanks for the help everyone. Margaret

Margaret,

I have seen it spelled Ecstasy, ecstasy, and XTC. I did a Google search

and came up with this link. I'm not sure how helpful it will be for you,

but I hope you find something. Let us know, too, if you find the correct

spelling for it. I wouldn't mind adding it to my drug book.

Margaret,

I would definitely capitalize it. It is sort of a trade name even though

it's illegal. Also one would want to make sure to differentiate from the

emotion ectasy by captilizing it.

, That's the book I'm using, but sure can't find it in the 2001 edition and

was wondering if they had removed the street drugs, etc. Do you have the 2001

edition? Just wondering if I have overlooked something or what the deal is.

Saunders Pharmaceutical Word Book by Drake & Drake lists it as " ecstasy "

(all lower case). This reference is particularly good to look up street

drugs, OTC drugs, and slang drug terms.

Beginning with the 2000 edition, Saunders (Drake & Drake) started publishing

a " cross-reference companion " drug reference book, which included moving the

street drug names and investigational drug names to a separate reference

book. I believe it's entitled " Saunders Pharmaceutical Xref Book " and is

still authored by Drake and Drake.

That's what I was afraid of. Just means we have to spend extra money to get

what used to be provided in the regular Drake & Drake. I purchased the XREF but

found it very confusing so I gave it away and, wouldn't you know it, I just

mailed it away to someone else today. Oh well. I did find out that the street

drugs are listed in the back of the Psych/Neurology/Neurosurgery book that I

just got last week by Stedman's when someone else mentioned finding it there.

Sure was glad to find that out. Thanks for everyone's help tonight, sure

appreciate it, Margaret

Deb, Actually I think I would put it in quotes depending on the sentence. In

this sentence it was listed along with cocaine, marijuana and alcohol, so I just

left it as is. Margaret

I agree with Val on this for the reason she mentioned. Stedman's

Psychiatry/Neurology/Neurosurgery Words still lists slang terms which deals

with street drug terms. This is not capped but I think I would, depending

on the sentence.
