An update on Carson, not much to report...

I have been so busy lately I haven't had time to post. Yesterday we

took Carson to the orthotics office for a check. We were

disappointed to learn that he had not changed since his last appt.

At the beginning of the month, he was sick with double ear infections

and refused to eat hardly anything for 2 weeks, he lost over a

pound. So I knew it was likely that he didn't grow much this month

but I was still a little bummed. His assymetry is still at 0.7

(originally 1.2), so they want to keep him in it for another month.

She did really hammer away on that helmet to adjust it as far as she

could and she said if he is not to 0.5 next month then we may have to

consider doing a second helmet because she thought he would outgrow

this one by then. At least they only charge $200 for the second

helmet since the first was $1500 and still waiting on insurance to

reimburse us. His head looks great to me but I really wish we could

be done with this thing once and for all, but we decided if he does

need a second one that we will go through with it because this would

be like running a marathon and stopping just a few feet shy of the

finish line.

He is still going to PT every 2 weeks for his tort. I really cant

tell he has it anymore. He has complete ROM and very little

tilting. I only see the tilting now when he is tired and sitting

up. The stretches have become so much easier.

That's all for now, hopefully will be able to post more better news

soon. I put a new pic in the photo section before & after of his

current progress (he is under local helmets).

Jenn,

I'm sorry to hear Carson has been so sick, poor baby. I checked out

his pictures and he's rounding out so nicely! His head is looking

really good. Let us know how you make out at your next appointment.

Poor Carson! Ear infections can be so rough! His head is looking

great despite the speedbumps you've faced these past couple weeks.

Here's to some growing for Carson!

Hi Jenn,

I understand first hand how frustrating it can be to have NO growth

between visits. My son has been in his STARband since the end of

August and has never had a big growth spurt since the banding. I go

to each visit filled with a strange mix of hope and dread! Hope

that maybe, just maybe, he will have grown at least an 1/8th of an

inch, and dreading the news that he hasn't. We still have seen

great correction so far, and I think we will be done relatively

soon, but it sure does make it difficult on mom.

Good luck in the next couple of weeks. I am sending you growing

vibes (even though they have not worked here--maybe they will get

stronger across the miles!)
