Hello all,

I really need some help. I joined Weight Watchers last Monday thinking that Atkins was not "working" for me,only to find out that my sugar is even more elevated than before.

I feel bad that I am so easily swayed. I really need to hear from those that this WOE is the only way for them.

I have missed you all,

Carol Jean

I really think any weight loss program can work, its just that some

are easier to stay on than others, and some are healthier than

others, and (luckily for us!) Atkins is both. Don't feel bad, just

dust off and start over. Think of it as a process, a way of life,

you can't expect to be perfect right away, sometimes it takes more

than one try. And you are gladly welcomed back anytime!

Hey Carol :)

Welcome back! No diet is going to 'work' for you unless you stick to it and make a big life style change. You need to stop thinking of the quick fix and find a way of eating that you can see sticking to for the rest of your life. Anytime we stop a diet and go back to eating the way we were before, the weight will pile right back on.

I think that with your blood sugar issues that Atkins seems like a better solution than weight watchers, but you really need to look at the overall eating plan and determine which one you can live on. I 'vacationed' from Atkins doing a modified weight watchers for a week over the summer. I needed a fruit fix and quite enjoyed myself for the week. BUT I still didn't eat bread or pasta or rice or any of the stuff I know is pure poison for me. I spent my points on meat, fruit, and yogurt (of course the veggie feast was free). The downside was that I was often hungry. Having a good size portion of meat killed my points quota and things like cream, butter and cheese weren't really an option. The lack of fat in the diet plan is a definite downer. For me it was a good option for a week, but not for a lifetime. It might be something to look at though if you are finding Atkins too tough to stick with for a long period of time.

You might also want to look at how you are feeling as you lose weight. If I remember correctly, you've gotten down to 200 a couple of times and then gone off the diet. Perhaps losing weight is scarey as well as exciting and you are subconciously sabotaging yourself.

Anyways... my advice is to think long and hard about what your goals are with weight loss, be honest with yourself about the sacrifices you are willing to make to get there, and then GO DO IT!!

I started to get " tempted away " a couple of weeks ago when I clicked

on a link promising a " personalized " diet and coaching. Yea, right.

The link led to ediets.com, which advertises non-stop over the

internet. The " personalized " diet was full of prepared convenience

foods; I noticed lots of Healthy Choice brand, which as we all know

is full of sugars & carbs. And all for the very low fee of only $35!

I " unlinked " in a hurry!

I think a big part of what disgusted me was the predominance &

recommendation of commercially prepared foods. On this WOE, I eat

mostly freshly prepared foods, " made from scratch " , even if it's just

a quick meal. That alone is a healthier way of eating than consuming

highly processed & preservative-packed " convenience " foods. Yuck!

And, from what I've seen, Weight Watchers falls into the same

problem, promoting their own line of processed foods.

Did you actually begin the WW program, and then your sugar went up?

What I keep reminding myself of (when people criticize the Atkins

WOE) is that it's a basically healthy food plan: lean protein, lots

of salad & veggies, reasonable amounts of fats, and fruits & grains

at the level you can tolerate. NO ONE in the dietary world recommends

white sugar and refined carbs, and yet there they are, in all those,

ahem, " healthy choices " . The only part of the Atkins WOE that

could possibly be construed as " extreme " is induction, and that's

only 14 days.

Maybe Atkins ISN't for you--it isn't for everyone, and that's okay.

Try to figure out what's keeping you from succeeding.

Something that has helped me quite recently is an audio tape of a

book entitled " When You Eat In Front of the Refrigerator, Pull Up A

Chair " , by Geneen Roth. It explores the ways in which we are unkind

to ourselves, particularly around food, weight, and " dieting " . (Be

aware that she considers Atkins a " diet " , so don't let that throw you

off.) I found it at the public library.

Hope something in there helps.

VTY,

Trish

Hi Carol

It really wasn't a waste of time Carol. You learned the hard way that it

just isn't worth eating those off program foods. I did the same thing

but I also learned that I can't do it. They might taste good while your

eating them but when the bloodsugar thing starts working you feel awful.

Just pick yourself up and start over. I think Kirstie explained it the

best. We are all here for you Carol. We know you can do it. Read the

book over that will get you motivated again. Hope you have a good day

tomorrow. Remember we are all here for the same reason.'

This is the only WO*L* for me. It's a life, not just a temporary eating thing. I can't tell you how much better I feel. I am no longer tired and sluggish, when I am tired, it's a physical tiredness. I am no longer so down on myself and down in the dumps in general. I just feel great, I never knew I could have energy or feel good. I can't reccomend this WOL enough. I talk about it to anyone who will listen. Just tonight, I went shopping, I got some clothes at Lane , cuz let's face it, I'm not down in sizes enough yet... but I will be! And I got some vitamins finally, got Dr. A's at the GNC, also got one of his Advantage bars- the Praline Crunch and it was good, I liked it. Yes it still tastes like a diet bar, but I enjoyed it! Much better than his others, I don't like dark chocolate. But anyways, I digress, I went to Walden Books to see if they had Dr. A's new cook book and perhaps a nice Harlequin Romance novel to read. Well, come to find out the gentleman who worked there is on his 6th day of doing Atkins and the lady that worked there wanted to start doing Atkins as well. We must have stood there talking for a good 45 minutes! lol I can't praise this WOL enough. Anyone who has ears is going to hear it from me, because this is where it's at. This isn't just about weight loss it's about better health. And darnit, I'm feelin great! I want to shout it to the world!!! "Get on Atkin's!!!" Stick with Atkins guys and gals, it not only is much healthier for you, but it's more satisfying and it Will help you loose the weight! =) Take care! =)

Carol,

I have tried everything out there, most took off a few pounds, but not for

long. This IS the only thing out there that has worked for me, without

hungar, being deprived, feeling rotten, and quick, easy, healthy results....

Welcome Back....Annie
