I agree with this. I think there are too many " self dx'd " people with AS these days and then I think they take advantage of this disability. Roxanna ôô What doesn't kill us Makes us really mean. Guest guest
Thanks, Fania, for your helpful comments on how to explain AS to acquaintences. I like the below perspective too. Sounds good to me in English. -- Theresa On Thu, 13 Mar 2003 23:53:01 +0200 " beitchazen " <beitchazen@...> writes: > > <<<<<<<Maybe everyone needs to see the > > person and not the disorder they have.> > > that is why I always say AS was diagnosed in him (it does not > sound as > good in English though) and not " he has AS " , " he is AS " , he was > diagnosed > with, no - they diagnosed AS in him, a small part in him is ASish. > > F > > >

It seems the more comfortable we are with it, the more comfortable our children are, and then the more comfortable others are. Not one person has considered it a sign of unintelligence(yet). The friend I was talking to has a middle school AS child who is being successfuly mainstreamed this year. The students treat him better, knowing the disorder, than not knowing. Guest guest
Sitting at Baby Well this week, and a woman came up to me and says.... Oh your baby is SO cute, his head is square! Like WTH? I was like.. oh your baby is so cute, cept his nose is huge! (Not, really-- but I was soo tempted--It was HUGE) I know she wasn't trying to be insensitive, she was just ignorant about plagio, but it was frustrating after all the worry and repositioning that its still that noticeable. Its been 2 days and I'm still sitting here thinking about it at the butt crack of dawn. Ah well at least she didn't say lopsided face like my inlaws did *sigh* Thanks for listening =) Ali & Connor
Guest guest
Yeah, it's hard to keep your mouth shut when people make stupid comments. You expect comments from kids, but some adults just don't think! Before we decided to band Brady, every time my nephew would see Brady, he would say to someone " Isn't his head wierd? " That's what helped me make my decision-- if a 9 year old noticed it, so did everyone else. Hopefully you won't have to run into this woman again, but don't let it worry you too much! -Amy > Sitting at Baby Well this week, and a woman came up to me and says.... Guest guest
Reminds me of a T shirt I had when I was a teen... it said.. I may be fat, but you are ugly, I can diet, but you will still be ugly.
