Guest guest
Hi, My son, 11, has had occasional episodes of OCD over the years, which I have always assumed were strep/PANDAS related, since they almost always showed up when he had sore throats. However, he has never tested positive for strep, even when the OCD was at it's worst. The past few weeks, he's been doing hand-washing more than ever before in his life. Normally, he has no OCD symptoms, but handwashing is the one that comes first when he's in this OCD cycle. He's not been feeling very well either lately, a little reflux, sore throat off and on, easily irritated, just not himself. Tonight was the worst he's ever been, OCD-wise, in his life. We were in a PetSmart store, and suddenly he had to wash his hands every few minutes. Luckily, the store has those little accident stations with sanitizer for him to keep running to. My son was in tears, asking what was wrong, why his hands were getting so dirty, he screamed when a lady bumped into him " She TOUCHED me!!! " , walked around with his hands in front of him, wouldn't open doors, didn't want to touch his seatbelt, etc. He kept saying " What is wrong with me? This is so hard! I can't do this! Why am I like this? Get me to a doctor (this from a kid who HATES doctors) " and I talked about how strep is one reason he may be doing this. Now, two hours later, he is calm, fine, playing happily at home. I've felt we were successful in the past hitting strep/OCD (if it is strep) with Lauricidin and OLE but I'm not seeing any differences now. He's GFCFSF, Feingold and LOD. Because that leaves too little for him that he likes to eat, we have a hard time keeping on all those diets, and do cheat (with Peptizyde) on the GFCF part, and are truly more MOD than LOD just because he's so sick of eating the same foods over and over. Thanks for suggestions - this was a very scary evening. Debbie
