Guest guest
That is very low - if I were you I would do it for 2 months and then do the self-test and see how far it went up. Dr. JM Subject: Vit D To: csb-autism-rx Date: Thursday, January 8, 2009, 1:33 PM I had my Vit D checked and it was 18. The doctor said it quite low and prescribed 50,000 IU to be taken once weekly. This seems likes an awful lot but I suppose 18 isn't good, either. Shari
Guest guest
Thank you - that's exactly what my doctor thought, too. Guest guest
, Same here - sunshine in Arkansas. I'm not sure what to do about our daughter, autism, and Vitamin D. She has calcium/magnesium/phosphate crystals in her urine which causes kidney problems. I've had her calcium levels checked but not Vitamin D. I want to do that but I don't know if I want to up the intake if it increases her calcium in the urine? I'm not sure what I just said but I think I'm concerned about the same things you are. However, I believe Vitamin D is so important for autism. Shari Vit D > To: csb-autism-rx > Date: Thursday, January 8, 2009, 1:33 PM > > I had my Vit D checked and it was 18. Guest guest
I have sent a query to Dr. Cannell re yours and 's questions - I think it is very difficult to assess calcium levels from regular blood tests - I'll let you know what he says. Guest guest
Thank you. Neathery stopped a lot of her urinary pain and frequent urination when I stopped the calcium/magnesium supplements. I'm re-introducing them in smaller amounts and spaces them out further - I'm not giving them every day. It's interesting that she developed the calcium and magnesium crystals after I started using Oxypowder for constipation. Before that, she only had calcium phosphate crystals in her urine. I also removed grapes and tomatoes. Shari [csb-autism- rx] Vit D > To: csb-autism-rx@ yahoogroups. com > Date: Thursday, January 8, 2009, 1:33 PM > > I had my Vit D checked and it was 18. Guest guest
Thank you Doctor McCandless! My concern came after reading about hypoparathyroidism and how the body can purposely decrease Vit D levels to control potential excess calium absorbtion. With their calcium running at the high end, even tho their parathyroid levels are normal, I still have some concern since excess absorbed calcium can be so dangerous. My son does take calcium now, but even before calcium supps, his levels were at the high end of the normal range (10.3). But, I also know how important Vit D is to good health. Am also running it by my son's DAN! Doc here. We are also seeing a neurologist at the end of this month to go over some test results for mito dysfunction. My son has slightly high citrulline and ammonia levels. Arginine is at the low end of normal. , Houston > > > > From: Dwayne & Shari <parker29@ .> > > Subject: [csb-autism- rx] Vit D > > To: csb-autism-rx@ yahoogroups. com > > Date: Thursday, January 8, 2009, 1:33 PM > > > > I had my Vit D checked and it was 18. Guest guest
Something to consider if you used Quest to test Vitamin D - they've admitted faulty testing results http://www.nytimes.com/2009/01/08/business/08labtest.html > > > > > > From: Dwayne & Shari <parker29@ .> > > > Subject: [csb-autism- rx] Vit D > > > To: csb-autism-rx@ yahoogroups. com > > > Date: Thursday, January 8, 2009, 1:33 PM > > > > > > I had my Vit D checked and it was 18. Guest guest
Mine was 19 and the NP suggested 400iu, I said really? I give my son 2000ius per day. She gasped and asked why, I changed the subject. The OB then told me to take 2000IUs per day. I haven't retested yet and I don't think it was a quest test. > > I had my Vit D checked and it was 18. Guest guest
I'm not sure where Dr. Perrin (Family Practice) ran the test. She sent it with my other blood work (cholesterol, thyroid, CBC, etc.) She seemed firm in wanting me to take 50,000 IU once weekly for two months then I should be re-tested. I was a little nervous to take so much - but, I feel great so far. Our son even told me that I seem more relaxed and " upbeat " and my thoughts seem more clear. I just turned 45 and I'm really glad I had this checked. I can't imagine an increase in Vit. D could affect me so soon - maybe it's wishful thinking - I don't know.
