Would Benadryl be an option? At least topically, if it shouldn't be taken internally. I realize that even topically gets into the blood, but certainly not as much as if taken orally.

==============================

does anybody know of something I can do about the severe itching which is a withdrawal symptom ? I've been itching so bad especially my feet that I scratched so much with a fork that now they're starting to bleed a little bit,,, Sandy

There's a whole protocol for itching and burning feet...it's in the

Files..., can you direct us there?

Sandy, I'll talk to and see what she has to say. Why don't

you give us some background--what drug, how much, how you've been

withdrawing...look at the history form for consultations to give you a

sense of the information that helps.

Jan suggested Benadryl--that should work, but can only be used short

term. So if you need some immediate relief, go ahead and try it. But

you should only use it 2-3 days in a row--no more.

I'll get back to you....and if I don't, remind me!!

Hi Ros -

I've been having trouble catching up with you lately. Hope you are

well.

You can access this file by going into the group's homepage > Files >

Managing Specific Symptoms > Burning and Pain in Extremities. The

only other file in that folder is about remedies for anxiety. (A good

one, btw.)

Thanks, , for reminding us of this info. Hope you are doing as

well as can be.

Sandy - I hope you'll find something that helps you with this. It's

always one of the first symptoms to hit me when I make a reduction.

(We all respond a little differently and may have different

nutritional deficits, however.) Once you answer Kim's questions, she

can give you a better idea of what might help you personally.

once explained to me (I hope I get this correct) that this

is the body, with its compromised liver function due to drugs, trying

to rid itself of toxins. I'm not sure about you, but it helped me to

be reminded that the skin is an organ, affected by the drugs just like

all of our other organs.

For me personally, I've graduated from always taking Benadryl when

this happens and instead, working on breathing and meditation

exercises, for the intense itching/scratching cycle used to cause

feelings of panic in me. Once I've calmed myself down, I can use pure

coconut oil topically, and that seems to help.

Would epsom salts/ or a magnesium soak be appropriate here? I'm not

sure and will leave it to Kim to address your case personally.

Good luck with it.

I don't have what I would call pain or burning, I have severe

itching all over and then sometimes my hands and feet itch so bad

especially my feet that I was taking a fork to scratch them, I have

been taking the benadryl, well ya know the store brand equivalent,

and the oatmeal bath additive that is like aveno, when in the

bathtub I scrub all over with a loofa which feels wonderful, the

antihistamine makes me feel really weird that's why I thought maybe

there was something else besides getting in the bathtub so many

times a day, and I'm trying to get out the door and walk for

exercise because when I was on the med's I pretty much just hide

under the covers, didn't get out of bed for the last two years. I

quit cold turkey right around thanksgiving from zoloft, buspar,

doxepin, geodon, after being on just about all the same types of

these for over five years, the last two being the worst, I gained

over 100 pounds and the day I decided to quit couldn't get out of

bed because I was like the michelin man so bloated I couldn't move

my arms or legs.

Hi Sandy,

I'll discuss this with .

Unfortunately, after cold-turkeying from so many drugs, you're bound

to have some problems.

I'm sure she'll have some kind of suggestion--but you may want to

think about having a consult, as you are looking at some serious

long-term problems from a multiple cold turkey withdrawal.

I can tell you right now that you need to get yourself some

supplements right away. Start with magnesium citrate and Carlson's

fish oil. will give you a detailed protocol when you have a

consult.

Also work on your diet, as described in Eating for Recovery in the Files.

The only way your body can heal from this massive assault, from the

drugs themselves and then the abrupt withdrawal, is to give it lots

and lots of nutrients to work with.

I am taking the supplements suggested by , along with some suggested by my mom who is very knowledgeable in these matters, she ran a health food store for Bobby Coor while he was developing his beverage corporation, you know Coors Ginseng Rush (my mom just came back into my life a couple months ago after a long estrangement) and I am taking an omega 3 fish oil that my mom gets that comes in packets, it's like a gel that tastes sorta like orange. I just couldn't take the meds any longer, I felt like I was going to explode I was so bloated, then after being off of them for a little bit I began to realizing so many other effects they had over me. So I am just forcing myself to persevere through the really rough times.

Hi Sandy,

I just spoke with .

She said that you really need to do a consult, as you have

cold-turkeyed off so many drugs at once. It's a serious situation,

difficult to handle in email. The severe itching is a symptom of

impaired liver function--the rapid detox from all the drugs has

overwhelmed your liver.
