Guest guest
Breaking the skins of the flaxseed in a mortar and pestle will increase the effect but do not substitute flaxseed oil. Something in the processing makes the flaxseed oil have the opposite effect and will spread the growth of prostate cancer, according to Dr. Myers. Kathy. Guest guest
Yes Kathy, I've heard of that. I think there must be something in the seed that gets left behind when they separate the oil. I'm also using a mortar and pestle. I understand that the seeds are so hard that they just go straight through if they're not broken. Guest guest
Kathy - Do they say anything about using the whole flax seed? We use it often on our oatmeal. My prostate, via Lupron, shrunk from 81 to 40, over 7 months. Treatment decision, shooting for December 2007. Looking at a SEEDING only treatment. My wife buys these " flax seeds " from vitamin section of one of the large pharmacies. " Nature's Bounty COLD-MILLED ORGANIC FLAX SEEDS " . Supposedly contain; Omega-3, Omega-6, Omega-9, EFA's, dietary fibers, and Lignans. Awfully small seeds? Guest guest
Studies I read say that Flaxseed or Flax oil is one of may elements to a low fat diet to lower high choleterol. Reduction in excess cholesterol and fat slows down prostate cancer. It is not the flax itself that acts on the cancer. It is the reduction in fat. Hunreds of studies demonstrate this. google fat and prostate cancer. You will find hundreds of these studies. I am someone who can say it helped. I had a psa doubling time of 2 months after the failure of hormome therapy. My gleason is 8. After a radical diet and exercise program to loose weight and lower cholesterol, my doubling time slowed down to about 12 months. I canceled my enrollment in a pending clinical trial using chemo and TROVAX vaccine because of this improvement. My PSA had to reach 5, but it will now be at least 18 months before it reaches that qualifying level of 5. > > > > Breaking the skins of the flaxseed in a mortar and pestle will > increase the > > effect but do not substitute flaxseed oil. Guest guest
From what I have read flax seed is good but that there are some indications that flaxseed oil may have the opposite effect. From article: Flaxseed oil contains only the alpha-linolenic acid component of flaxseed, and not the fiber or lignan components. Therefore, flaxseed oil may share the purported lipid-lowering properties of flaxseed, but not the proposed laxative or anti-cancer abilities. Preliminary evidence suggests that alpha-linolenic acid may be associated with an increased risk of prostate cancer. http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/flaxseed/NS_patient-flaxseed Kathy From: ProstateCancerSupport [mailto:ProstateCancerSupport ] On Behalf Of allanbrandt Sent: Sunday, October 21, 2007 9:16 PM To: ProstateCancerSupport Subject: Re: Flaxseed Report Studies I read say that Flaxseed or Flax oil is one of may elements to a low fat diet to lower high choleterol. Guest guest
--- I use one of those small coffee bean grinders to grind up the flax seed. I grind up about enough for about a week, and store the unused portion in the " fridge " . The coffee grinders are very inexpensive, and work great! Guest guest
I've now tried Mortar & Pestling flaxseed and coffee-grinding it, and there's no doubt that the most reliable and easiest way is to coffee- grind it. I've heard that it's much better to grind it oneself than use ready ground.
