Guest guest
Hi everyone! Thanks so much for your thoughts on signing. Lucy, I emailed you back after your individ. email to me, but I don't think it made it. I printed up your advice and am holding onto it for my specialist. Thanks to all of you for your thoughts. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little more confused now than I was b4, but I am at least more educated and less ignorant re:signing, which is always a plus going into the school system! I had been out of town and I should know better to write a deep question and then leave because I sure had a ton of email! I think that we are going to start w/SEE because literacy is VERY important to us that he knows how to read. As someone mentioned, there isn't a great deal of difference in the actual signs at this age, so I will teach him signs and then when it gets to the point of literacy I feel I would be better prepared to back up his ASL w/my SEE to make sure he understands the grammar of the English language as well as ASL (since he'll learn that in school). Of course, you know how things change though, and we are still very young! I was pleased to hear that upon meeting adults, someone found that they were able to interchange between SEE and ASL w/ little effort. I was also pleased to hear they didn't blame their parents for the choices they made! Boy, do I worry about that one! To and Chip especially, thanks for writing about your interests. My husband doesn't get on the list really, I usually just tell him what I read, but I showed him the msgs from you two talking about your interests and love for sports and other things and I think he really enjoyed that-knowing that it's possible for to grow up and have " normal " interests and hobbies. Thanks! WE are counting down the days to the conference in Indiana! We are so excited to be able to put faces w/all the names we have been hearing on the list. Thanks for everything!
