Guest guest
I thought Avandia shouldn't be taken with insulin for some reason, I don't remember. Guest guest
Actually, I stand corrected...just looked it up and even Avandia's official web site does NOT recommend it with insulin, while the Actos official information does. I'm not sure, but I think that if my vague memory serves me that Avandia with insulin increases the likelihood of problems with edema, which can ultimately lead to heart failure. I'll keep looking and get back to y'all if I find any similar news on Actos. Thanks for the quick catch on that. That's what make this a great list...lots of folks who do their homework. Guest guest
As usual, I responded to this question ONLY because the writer was having significant side effects from low carbing, to show some potential alternatives. Technically, there aren't any life-threatening side effects from low carbing, but nearly everyone who low carbs is a heavy red meat eater; heavy red meat eating is HIGHLY correlated with osteoporosis AND several types of cancer, among other things. Yet over and over people on this list complain about known potential side effects of various drugs, while totally denying that there can be anything wrong with low carbing plus insulin. Yes, people with congestive heart failure should not take Actos or Avandia. Yes, about 3% of people taking Actos develop edema, but that goes away as soon as you go off. 97% do not develop edema. It's a side effect that's easy to notice. We have no statistics, unfortunately, on what percentage of people do well on low carbs vs. those who don't. Again, as I've said before, there are NO easy straighforward answers to diabetes that work for everyone. All options should be considered and offered. Guest guest
You're correct, Avandia is not recommended (counter-indicated?) to be used with Insulin due to possible cardiac problems. Actos use with Insulin is authorized as the manufactor included it's use with insulin in it's application to the FDA. Thats per my endo. ========= I may not have gotten all the facts, but at approximately 8/29/01 12:53 PM I believe Rainbow Farm is rumored to have said: >I thought Avandia shouldn't be taken with insulin for some reason, I don't >remember. ===================================================================== Maurer - Type II for 12 years, diet, exercise, and meds. http://homepage.mac.com/maurerw/index.html (only 45 minutes from Sequoia National Park in Central California) =====================================================================
