Like any group, the individuals in it make the difference. Just like any of the MS lists out there, some are supportive, encouraging and loving, while others fall a bit short. <g> We have the best one out there, of course. about finding just the 'right' group/meeting for you. You see, as far as Alanon is concerned, there are many different meetings comprised of very different approaches sometimes. Thurs. eve. I went to 2 back-to back meetings. The first, a beginners, the second a regular meeting. Of both the meetings, 90% were women, whose spouse was an alcoholic, and the other 10% were men whose wives were. From there, about 92 or slightly more % had left their spouses. As a matter of fact, one man was divorced and had custody of the kids. I found most of the people leave the situation. What ANY of the 12 steps programs are about are learning to see/get a handle on what is YOUR behavior/reaction to the 'drunk or user' and to understand and learn what is NOT in your control, for example--I cannot control my husband's addiction, rage, mood, temperment , etc. but I CAN chose HOW I react or NOT react to his crap! I am trying really hard to focus on this principle, as well as--One Day at a time!
