Guest guest
Fun, fun, fun, . Putter's hair was pretty much uncuttable until he was five. We did get haircuts starting at about two and a half, but very rarely and the haircuts never looked too hot. But Putter is so beautiful that it hardly mattered. You are lucky to have a regular competent person to take your boys to. Sorry about 's car. THAT is never convenient. Oh, well. Salli
Guest guest
Once again....I am glad I have a girl and she has never had her hair cut in the four years she has been alive. Although I think you and your boys did wonderfully. And it sounds like you have a great hairdresser....very patient. Sounds like a keeper. Guest guest
.. All I can say is.. WOW! I am litterally exhausted after reading about your day!..lol YIKES! Unfortunately.. I have been the one to cut Tommy's hair. I think we took him to a hair dresser when he was 2 for his first hair cut.. and then my mom wanted to do his second (my whole family does hair- except me).. needless to say, it took that one time for her to realize that she would never ASK for such a task again!..lol I just take the clippers to tommy once a month. He usually hates it. I think its because his dad is usually sitting on him, holding his arms down, while I sit on his legs.. and we do the record 2 minute haircut..lol Last week, I let him take as much time as necessary.. I took the clippers and turned them on the side, and ran them over his body.. and let him feel the vibrations.. he really liked it. When he had all he could take of the haircutting, he would ask for more tickle.. This is the nicest haircut he's had in over a year. Thank goodness! And the ears!! UUGGHH!! What a nightmare.. I know what you mean! :-) Take care Rhonda > Yesterday I took all the boys for haircuts. By myself, which was > necessary because of the timing. Guest guest
Lori -- my mom went on vacation alone when I was 4. My hair was down to the small of my back. When she came home, I had a brush cut...my dad had taken me to his barber. I can't even IMAGINE what she did to him! Guest guest
Today we all got hair cuts. The woman that cut Aislynn's waist length hair, (bang trim and trim an inch and a half off the length) did everything different, and speaks very little English. I speak very little Spanish, although I understand well. Anyway, she started by wetting her entire head under the faucet. They have never done that for any of us! Poor Aislynn, she was so confused. I reassured her, hoping the woman would pick up that she is " differently abled. " Then because she was a short woman, she had Aislynn stand up the whole time while she trimmed the length. Now we are talking Aislynn slouching, wiggling, turning her head, holding her head at an odd angle, and just plain complaining through the whole thing. Normally, they just stick her in the chair, spray wet it, comb and separate it, then hand clip it, and she loves it. I have never had to hold her head before still, but her patience with this woman was gone, and mine was quickly draining. Her hair was a big mess after she wet it, and hurt Aislynn to comb it out. I always use conditioner when I comb out her hair when wet so I don't hurt her as much. Why couldn't the stupid woman just use the spray bottle like the other hair cutter did with Kelsey? When she was done, I gave Aislynn a big hug and praised her being such a trooper. I am not understanding, but that tape gave me a better view. seemed very much like all the other autistic boys his age in how he comes off to people. Guest guest
Wow! Her hair must grow really fast! Ebony's is still relatively short. She had really short hair until after she turned two and then it started growing some. If I braid it, it is just to her shoulders. But, her hair is very curly cause her dad is black. She has good hair, but I have to use oil in it and everything or I would not be able to brush it. It has to be " done " every day in ponies or braids cause it will snarl up if I leave it down. My ex-mil and ex-sil think snarl is a made up word. They had never heard it before! LOL! They said it is nappy not snarly. My mother in law always buys hair stuff for her which is great cause they live in Chicago and it is more available and lot cheaper than getting it here. I would have been very angry if my husband ever cut my kids hair without asking. I remember when I was little I had really long blond hair and I went behind our big console t.v. and cut it with a scissors. My mom was furious!! Guest guest
So now that I can see better, my > New Year's Revolution (hehe) is to think of Aislynn > as being autistic first, and not just stubborn. > > You guys are helping me so much on this list. Yes, Barb, but on the other hand refusing to accept the disability's limitation can sometimes mean a better outcome. It is hard to keep a realistic balance between recognizing the very real limitations and continuing to shoot for the stars. When you get one right, the other is usually out of whack. Parenting is one of those jobs that, if someone explained it to you fully before you got started, you would politely decline the honor. Guest guest
practically scalped herself when she was four, or maybe three, but I'm pretty sure it was four. It took two or three years until it looked what I considered decent again, but other than maintenance to get it grown out evenly she has not had her hair cut. It is down to her upper thighs/bottom of her seat. My hair is curly and is down to the top of my bum. I spend maybe 90 seconds a day on it, just long enough to brush it and put it up on a big knot. I might spend ten minutes if I wash it. Gail's hair we keep cut to just past the top of her shoulders. Her hair is great short, it's perfect wash and wear. When it's long it's a mess, full of knots and always ratty looking. Gail is such a high maintenance kid that I am not even willing to consider high maintenance hair on her. Guest guest
It's always a nightmare for us as well when we go to the hairdresser. I always bring along crackers, cookies, and juice. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't - usually I just shoot for having her bangs trimmed. is 2 1/2 now and this will be either her 6 or 7th haircut I've lost count. hates having her hair combed, brushed anything and is very sensative to the whole ordeal. I bring the detangler and spray it on first if the hairdresser wants it wet. Do you think it hurts her? That's my biggest feat that this hurts her when we comb her hair. Next time I would try to get someone different to cut her hair and explain that she likes to done this way. Then explain how to do it. PS Congratulations for getting threw it like a trooper yourself! Guest guest
ugh! I hope this event doesn't ruin future trips to the hair dresser. Maybe you can request the " good " one next time in hopes of not having the same experience. My hair is just past my shoulders, but it is bone straight except for being curly from two spots above my temples and one spot at the nape of my neck...unless I wash and dry it daily, (takes 20 mintues to dry my hair because it is very fine and very thick) I look like crap -- even in a ponytail! <sigh> Jacquie

The woman did spray detangler on that matted mop, but like what's that gonna do? I have never ever seen any of them wet their hair first unless they ordered a shampoo, that was highly unusual. For sure I will make sure that one doesn't cut her, and last time they used a booster seat to elevate her so she didn't have to stand up the whole time. She was bummed about sitting on a booster seat for her age, but when I explained to her about the fact they couldn't reach down that far, she relented. The real awful thing was the water was too hot when she started, and Aislynn complained. She adjusted it, and Aislynn told her it was fine. I just asked Aislynn if she thought anything was strange about it, and she said she liked the sink, " it was comfy " she said. Hmmmmm Go figure. Guest guest
Putter's OT did a lot of work with Putter to get him desensitized to the clippers. That might be one solution for some of your haircut-phobic kids. Salli

I'm this way as a blonde. When my hair was worn long, if I had it up in a high ponytail, it would pull at my scalp from the weight and also made my neck hurt. If I pulled it up in the morning wet, it would still be wet in the center of the ponytail at the end of the day. I finally decided that if I was going to always pull it back, I may as well leave it short. Now I spend about 5 minutes with it after a shower and I'm done (I let it dry most of the way on it's own).
