Fun, fun, fun, . Putter's hair was pretty much uncuttable until he

was five. We did get haircuts starting at about two and a half, but very

rarely and the haircuts never looked too hot. But Putter is so beautiful

that it hardly mattered.

You are lucky to have a regular competent person to take your boys to.

Sorry about 's car. THAT is never convenient.

Oh, well.

Once again....I am glad I have a girl and she has never had her hair cut in

the four years she has been alive. Although I think you and your boys did

wonderfully. And it sounds like you have a great hairdresser....very

patient. Sounds like a keeper.

Yesterday I took all the boys for haircuts. By myself, which was

necessary because of the timing. Sissi, the wonderful angel, that

cuts their hair is very talented with a pair of scissors, but

yesterday the boys tried even her amazing talents.

was first. He will sit in the chair at nine without

assistance, but he still does not like haircuts. I don't like it

short. Don't make it too short. It itches when it's too short.

That tickles. Why does that tickle. I don't like that tickle

thing. No don't cut too much off. It's in my eyes. It's in my

nose. Are you done yet? I guess it's okay. Can I play my gameboy

now?

While was enduring his haircut was running up and down

generally being quietish, but not to be confused with quiet by any

means. He was momentarily distracted with paper and crayons long

enough to draw a few J's and an H or two which he then proudly

announced and needed to show me. Except I had to go to the table.

Mommy, come see! MOMMY! Come See! I saw. was next for a

haircut.

I sat in tne chair and held him as he was not entirely a willing

participant. Fortunately he changed his mind once we got started

which did make things easier, but I was not about to let him sit

alone. He was very squirmy although not too terribly so.

does not like the clippers, the feel of them or the sound. They

tickle and they buzz. Neither does he care for the sound of the

scissors. Then there is this ear thing that he has. He hates water

on his ears, or soap, or cut hair, and he barely, just barely

tolerates having the hair trimmed around them. Can you imagine some

day when he is a hairy grown man, and he WILL be hairy, trying to get

the hair trimmed in his ears. Oh yeah, I don't envy his future wife

or barber one tiny bit. Eventually we got him done, or at least

close enough. He escaped gleefully to continue his not so quiet

activities.

Meanwhile 's amazing patience was running out and the show in

the chair was not nearly as amusing anymore so was next for a

trim.

But first we had to catch J because he was running rampant and

pestering Chris.

Back to . He sat in my lap sweet as can be while Sissi trimmed

the bangs out of his face and the whispies that straggled longer than

the rest of his sweet baby hair. That was all for . He's much

to little for a big boy haircut, especially since he still has those

sweet baby curls.

Time to reclaim . Not that there were any other takers mind

you, but he was becoming quite wound up.

Next was my turn to get my bangs trimmed. Even though I have curly

hair they were threatening my nose so it was time for them to be

properly trimmed before I took a pair of kitchen shears to them.

at this point had exceeded acceptable limits of behavior so,

back into my lap he went. Actually it was more like in my lap, under

one leg with an arm around his chest and another for his mouth as

needed.

Sissi proceeded with my trim and even styled my bangs all while

successfully avoiding a struggling . They still look great

this morning, the bangs, not the struggling . She trimmed my

long ends and put all my hair back up in a knot with my hairsticks.

I periodically released 's mouth when he agreed to use a

quiet voice but only for brief periods of time as quiet voice

agreements are only good for one or two phrases from .

Fortunately I had cash in my pocket which negated the necessity of

writing a check. I tipped her too - she REALLY deserved it! We made

a hasty escape out the door with in one arm and in

the jogger. held the door open very nicely for us, with a

little prompting.

Needless to say, was the first occupant in the van.

We went home to find 's car at home, but not or the girls.

Presumably they were doing the paper route but I didn't find them.

Turns out that I just barely missed them. I went to Safeway to pick

up prescriptions with all three of the boys thinking the scripts

would all be ready. I was wrong.

Finally while I am paying for the scripts, (one arm, half a leg) the

cell phone rings and asks if we are coming home. is

supposed to meet her friends for skating in ten minutes and 's

car has a problem. AAAHHH, so THAT's why they weren't driving the

route. Seems the thermostat or water pump isn't working and the car

almost over heated. Goody. Our mechanic is closed on weekends.

I'd say I can't wait for the new year to start but the first thing I

have scheduled for the new year is a flight home to attend a

funeral.

All I can say is.. WOW! I am litterally exhausted after reading

about your day!..lol YIKES!

Unfortunately.. I have been the one to cut Tommy's hair. I think we

took him to a hair dresser when he was 2 for his first hair cut.. and

then my mom wanted to do his second (my whole family does hair-

except me).. needless to say, it took that one time for her to

realize that she would never ASK for such a task again!..lol I just

take the clippers to tommy once a month. He usually hates it. I

think its because his dad is usually sitting on him, holding his arms

down, while I sit on his legs.. and we do the record 2 minute

haircut..lol Last week, I let him take as much time as necessary.. I

took the clippers and turned them on the side, and ran them over his

body.. and let him feel the vibrations.. he really liked it. When he

had all he could take of the haircutting, he would ask for more

tickle.. This is the nicest haircut he's had in over a year. Thank

goodness! And the ears!! UUGGHH!! What a nightmare.. I know what you

mean! :-)

Take care

I cut ' hair while he is sleeping...had a friend who was a

hairdresser try once and then she taught me how to do it while he is

out...wonderful.

Luckily he has fairly curly hair, and that covers up a lot

of " oopses " ...

I do the same with his nails, too...only way to go, IMO.

Tamara, My daughter is 7 and I never cut her hair. It was down passed her knees.

Then one day I came home from work when she was 6 1/2 and my SIL who cuts are

hair was there. She was cutting everyone's hair. MY a-hole of a husband called

her. Any way I walked in the house and she came running over to me and said

mommy I got my hair cut. I looked at her and she turned around and there it was

just under her shoulder. I flipped. I have never seen me get so angry. I yelled

at dh for letting his sister cut her hair. She is know 7 years 2 months and her

hair is back to the top of her bum. I will not cut her hair again.

Lori -- my mom went on vacation alone when I was 4. My hair was down to the

small of my back. When she came home, I had a brush cut...my dad had taken me

to his barber.

I can't even IMAGINE what she did to him! (I had fine, straight, cornsilk hair)

Today we all got hair cuts.

The woman that cut Aislynn's waist length hair,

(bang trim and trim an inch and a half off the length)

did everything different, and speaks very little English.

I speak very little Spanish, although I understand well.

Anyway, she started by wetting her entire head under

the faucet. They have never done that for any of us!

Poor Aislynn, she was so confused. I reassured her,

hoping the woman would pick up that she is " differently

abled. " Then because she was a short woman, she had

Aislynn stand up the whole time while she trimmed the

length. Now we are talking Aislynn slouching, wiggling,

turning her head, holding her head at an odd angle, and

just plain complaining through the whole thing.

Normally, they just stick her in the chair, spray wet it,

comb and separate it, then hand clip it, and she loves it.

I have never had to hold her head before still, but her

patience with this woman was gone, and mine was quickly

draining. Her hair was a big mess after she wet it, and

hurt Aislynn to comb it out. I always use conditioner

when I comb out her hair when wet so I don't hurt her

as much. Why couldn't the stupid woman just use

the spray bottle like the other hair cutter did with

Kelsey? When she was done, I gave Aislynn

a big hug and praised her being such a trooper.

Thanks Lori Bear!

Part of this is due to watching " " last night

and getting a better insight into what goes on

with these kids. I think for as long as I have

lived with this dx, I should be more understanding.

I am not understanding, but that tape gave me a

better view. seemed very much like all

Wow! Her hair must grow really fast! Ebony's is still relatively short.

She had really short hair until after she turned two and then it started

growing some. If I braid it, it is just to her shoulders. But, her hair is

very curly cause her dad is black. She has good hair, but I have to use oil

in it and everything or I would not be able to brush it. It has to be

" done " every day in ponies or braids cause it will snarl up if I leave it

down. My ex-mil and ex-sil think snarl is a made up word. They had never

heard it before! LOL! They said it is nappy not snarly. My mother in law

always buys hair stuff for her which is great cause they live in Chicago and

it is more available and lot cheaper than getting it here. I would have

been very angry if my husband ever cut my kids hair without asking. I

remember when I was little I had really long blond hair and I went behind

our big console t.v. and cut it with a scissors. My mom was furious!! LOL

I'd say I can't wait for the new year to start but the first thing I

have scheduled for the new year is a flight home to attend a

funeral.

Barb I am sorry that the woman was so stupid in cutting Aislynn's hair. I am

very glad that Aislynn was such a trooper over it all. What a good mom you are

for given her the hug she need after all that.

Re: Of Haircuts and Other Adventures

Yes, Barb, but on the other hand refusing to accept the disability's

limitation can sometimes mean a better outcome. It is hard to keep a

realistic balance between recognizing the very real limitations and

continuing to shoot for the stars. When you get one right, the other is

usually out of whack.

practically scalped herself when she was four, or maybe three,

but I'm pretty sure it was four. It took two or three years until it

looked what I considered decent again, but other than maintenance to

get it grown out evenly she has not had her hair cut. It is down to

her upper thighs/bottom of her seat.

My hair is curly and is down to the top of my bum. I spend maybe 90

seconds a day on it, just long enough to brush it and put it up on a

big knot. I might spend ten minutes if I wash it.

Gail's hair we keep cut to just past the top of her shoulders. Her

hair is great short, it's perfect wash and wear. When it's long it's

a mess, full of knots and always ratty looking. Gail is such a high

maintenance kid that I am not even willing to consider high

maintenance hair on her.

It's always a nightmare for us as well when we go to the hairdresser. I

always bring along crackers, cookies, and juice. Sometimes it works

sometimes it doesn't - usually I just shoot for having her bangs trimmed.

is 2 1/2 now and this will be either her 6 or 7th haircut I've lost

count. hates having her hair combed, brushed anything and is very

sensative to the whole ordeal. I bring the detangler and spray it on first

if the hairdresser wants it wet. Do you think it hurts her? That's my

biggest feat that this hurts her when we comb her hair.

Next time I would try to get someone different to cut her hair and explain

that she likes to done this way. Then explain how to do it.

:)

PS Congratulations for getting threw it like a trooper yourself!

ugh! I hope this event doesn't ruin future trips to the hair dresser. Maybe

you can request the " good " one next time in hopes of not having the same

Oh, , I envy you! My hair is just past my shoulders, but it is bone

straight except for being curly from two spots above my temples and one spot at

the nape of my neck...unless I wash and dry it daily, (takes 20 mintues to dry

my hair because it is very fine and very thick) I look like crap -- even in a

ponytail!

I don't think it will, Aislynn never makes a scene,

she suffers in silence. The woman did spray

detangler on that matted mop, but like what's

that gonna do? I have never ever seen any

of them wet their hair first unless they ordered

a shampoo, that was highly unusual.

For sure I will make sure that one doesn't cut

her, and last time they used a booster seat

to elevate her so she didn't have to stand up

the whole time. She was bummed about sitting

on a booster seat for her age, but when I explained

to her about the fact they couldn't reach down that

far, she relented.

The real awful thing was the water was too hot

when she started, and Aislynn complained.

She adjusted it, and Aislynn told her it was fine.

I just asked Aislynn if she thought anything was

strange about it, and she said she liked the sink,

" it was comfy " she said. Hmmmmm

Go figure.

How can it be fine AND thick?

I thought those two were opposites.

Nope, it means that the strands themselves are very thin, but you have a ton

of the strands. I'm this way as a blonde. When my hair was worn long, if I

had it up in a high ponytail, it would pull at my scalp from the weight and

also made my neck hurt. If I pulled it up in the morning wet, it would

still be wet in the center of the ponytail at the end of the day. I finally

decided that if I was going to always pull it back, I may as well leave it

short. Now I spend about 5 minutes with it after a shower and I'm done (I

let it dry most of the way on it's own).
