Guest guest
Hi Jenn, Nice to meet you. is at a BOCES..it's in Plainview, Long Island. Our school district..Carle Place, is really wonderful..my brother and I went to school there, as did most of my cousins and now my daughter is a 2nd grader in the district. They are very accommodating to special needs kids in the district. I am currently interning to become a parent member in my school district..I sit in on the Committee on Special Education meetings with a veteran member..we represent the child and the parents at the meetings. has just starting using PECS..and his ST said he is doing excellent..he really caught on quickly and can use the picture cards to exchange for several food items, and toys. We are going to meet with his ST soon..she wants us to observe using the system and show us how to use it with him at home. She wanted to get him used to it first, at school, before having us do it with him. And, alsom with the holidays..they were doing all kinds of different things..parties, etc..she wanted to wait till the New Year to start us with it at home. He can some things..like *juice*..etc..but not really enought to communicate his needs..he mostly just goes and gets what he wants.
