Guest guest
Is 23 hours a day really necessary when my baby is not laying on his back much anymore. He is 6 mo. old and is sitting up on his own and rolling around on the ground. But with the pressure off of the problem area's why does he still have to wear it all the time. Also, does anyone know when the helmet/banding started (what year) I am wondering how old the oldest patient is now and if there are any residual affects from wearing a helmet....any studies done, etc. Thanks (Pleasanton, Calif) 6 mo. Guest guest
Hi , 23 hours a day is best for optimum correction. Besides the helmet keeping the " flat spot " from being laid on, there are also pressure points that are moving " bulges " back into proper places. As for the time line, not sure. Guest guest
Yep, 23 hrs is an absolute must to receive optimum correction!! It's very important. Banding/helmets has actually been around for many many years. I was recently on Cranial Tech's website & saw a post from a now 12 yr old boy who was banded. He said he was doing great. My daughter is 3.5 yrs of age now, she wore 2 bands for about 8 mos total time. She's doing great, no adverse side effects from the bands whatsoever. Guest guest
It is very important that they wear theband for 23 hours a day because you could miss a growth spurt. The pressure on the back of the head while the baby is laying down has no affects on how the band works. I am not sure about the year band ing came to be but I did run into a family that told me their son was DOCbanded 10 years ago and the 11 year old boys was with him and he looked perfectly normal ) Donna and Xavier AZ --- In Plagiocephaly , " fab520032003 " <s.myer@c...> wrote: > Is 23 hours a day really necessary when my baby is not laying on his > back much anymore. Guest guest
, Compliance is a must! It is soooo important that your baby be in his band 23 hours a day, everyday. You just don't know when he is going to grow. If you want him to get the best results possible, keep him in his band 23/7!! --- In Plagiocephaly , " fab520032003 " <s.myer@c...> wrote: > Is 23 hours a day really necessary when my baby is not laying on his > back much anymore. Guest guest
I was really worried about the 23 hour per day thing too when we first started. But I think the kids really get the best benefit from the pressure points when it is worn as much as possible. They work on growth and not just taking the pressure off the flat spot. That being said, Gus has been out of his helmet more than one hour on some days--usually when Daddy has him out in public (Grrr!). We have had continual arguments about that! Even on those days, though, he is probably in the band at least 20 hours. I will say that we were initially told 3 months, and he will now be in it for a total of 16 weeks--maybe b/c he has been out of it when he shouldn't be. I also think the kids do the best when it is left on--they get used to it and will not be confused by it being constantly on and off. Ultimately, it's your decision, but if you go to all the time and expense to get a band you will want to get the best results possible-- this means wearing it as directed by the experts! Guest guest
Hi , Once turned 6 months old he was hardly ever on his flat spot. (Sitting up, sleeping on his tummy, etc.). However, we still saw little (if any) improvement after that. That is why we decided to band him at around 9 months and then he received his band around 10 months. Since he's been in the band, we are now starting to see improvements. /DOC/10-7-03 @10mos./PA 23 hours a day? Is 23 hours a day really necessary when my baby is not laying on his back much anymore.
