You run a daycare out of your home? Isn't that a problem with this going on? I mean, don't the parents know something is wrong here? I do not know what I would do if I had to deal with this. This is like the ultimate behavioral problem. You realize we hold none of this against you, and only wish we could do something to help. With this and her running away, I just would have checked out by now. You are a hell of a woman, Tamara! Normally I hate swearing, but you are remarkable in the patience dept with having any by now. I realize you are at the end of that rope, but hopefully that (straight jacket) I mean overalls will arrive soon and you can relax. Barb-pulling for you, girl. This might not be a good time to mention it, but I absolutely love the name Ebony. May the Spirit of Christmas move you and those you love to a better place in life, one full of promise. ~Barbara Allyn
Guest guest
Thanks, Barb. I don't feel very patient most of the time, but I appreciate the support. All the day care families know about Ebony and do not have a problem with her. She is normally in school until 11:15. Then she has in-home therapy until 4:30. Generally, she only does the poop when she is not directly interacting with someone....so in the evenings or weekends or early mornings. I only have one child in the evenings that I watch Monday-Thursday and I don't offer care on the weekends. I also clean up immediately when she does it and she only does it when she is alone, so the day care kids really are not exposed to it. Thank you!! Guest guest
Tamara, Two things: Did you find out about MedicAlert? I never saw... wears a bracelet from them---got it at the suggestion of the police after he bolted out of church one day. I would suggest the bracelet rather than the necklace...can't get it off if you measure it right. They're pretty nice folks... Anyway, just in case you still need the information, the phone number is 1-, or you can go to www.medicalert.org It costs around $35 a year, I think (or they have a special 3 yr rate that is cheaper)...and you can update it when you need to. *Second*, you asked about the poop and smell thing in the book I'm reading... has been sick, so I haven't been doing a lot of reading lately...SO, I haven't gotten to the intervention part of the manual yet (most therapy books are arranged with theory first, then intervention)...but I have read that she feels poop smearing is tied to needing to find " me " ...sense of smell is very directly tied to the limbic system and is therefore strongly emotional--gives a lot of sensory/emotional impact if you are feeling lost...so if her therapy is helping her to gain an internal map of her body, and a sense of organization, in THEORY the smearing should decrease. Not much help, I know...I'll keep reading ( smears, too). Hope today is better, Raena
Guest guest
Raena...thanks so much for the info. I will be doing that soon. I had been thinking about something with her name and address and phone number on it with like autistic/non-verbal so that they would know. I will definetely look into it asap. Thanks again, Tamara ----Original Message Follows---- Reply-To: parenting_autism To: parenting_autism Subject: Re: Yet another S#!++y day!! Thanks for doing this Raena -- Tamara, I forgot to answer that post. I'm so sorry! Raena, does the $35 include being listed in the registry? Our was $85 for the bracelet and the registry.
