Dr. Jaimie Nivens was being treated at an Irving hospital for superficial gunshot wounds allegedly inflected by Dr. Leon Swift during a morning attack outside a clinic in the 700 block of Paddock Way, police said. Police said Swift ambushed Nivens after he arrived at the building. Witnesses told police that Swift chased the other doctor across the parking lot while firing shots. The gun apparently jammed. Nivens jumped into a passing garbage truck, which was fired upon by Swift. The two men were struggling outside the clinic when police arrived. Authorities said they are not sure what sparked the attack. " I was informed that there had been previous threats but they were not taken seriously or they were told he was not a danger to anyone, " said Grand Prarie police spokesman Brimmer. State medical records incidate that Swift had been suspended for unprofessional conduct in August for violating a previous order that restricted his practice. Police believe this is all tied together but are not certain how. Swift did not practice at the Grand Prairie office where the shooting occured. And they have not been partners since 1992.
