Guest guest
In the thread of several reports of us executive-limited struggling to cook something edible with minimal fuss... What I 'invented by error' some months ago, when living alone for 3 weeks (parents were off to finish grandparents' house repair, and I would have been worse there...) I had some spicy conserved meat, and desired to make Romanian 'mamaliga' (similar to Italian polenta: a porridge of corn-meal) to 'dilute' it. Generally I eat very 'diluted'. So off I filled with water the largish cast-iron kettle... then when it was about to boil, found the corn-meal was about 1/2 not enough - it would have been a thin soup. Fast seek through stock... some orange-colored lentil seeds, long unused. Added them too (1/2 concentration of a 'lentil meal'), added a little salt, waited ~20 minutes to boil. It resulted a yellow-orange conglomerate, balanced meal with slow-release carbohydrates and vegetal protein. Really pleasantly smelling when new. I ate from that for 8 days, alone or with some meat, yoghurt, cheese etc. Best wishes ! Mircea Pauca, Bucuresti, ROmania
