I guess this is why I get so pissed off at drs. When I was a kid you had one

dr and that was it. There was 9-5 and sometimes a saturday. If you had a

problem you called them. Now you usually have 3-5 drs in a practice,

sometimes you can get nights but NEVER a weekend. What since you're a dr you

don't work weekends? With so many in the practice you would think you would

have an easier time.

I used to get angry at the docs too....

Then I started talking to a customer who is also an OBGYN. He was asking if

I liked working for myself....we discussed the benefits and downsides of

this. I asked him if he will ever have his own office. (He is currently a

partner with 4 other older docs). He told me he couldn't afford to go on his

own.

He explained to me about his malpractice insurance. On his own, his first

100,000 dollars per year would go to malpractice. WOW.....

With a group, they get a BIG discount.

The insurance companies are the ones to be angry with. They are tying up the

medical communities hands year by year. They are slowly governing the

world...think about how much they control in our lives....the fear instilled

in people who don't have med. insurance.....

Anyway, I understand your aggravation....

This particular doc opened my eyes a bit.

I guess we're lucky here; all the pediatricians in town take turns

covering the weekends, so there are almost always brief office hours

on Sat and Sun...and there's a minor emergency clinic that covers

things that the ER would usually get that aren't life threatening.

The nights are covered through the Children's Hospital nurses'

line...they assist with the easy stuff, then channel the harder

things through the doc on call...

Right you are, Ron. Very right you are.

Around here there are autism dr's who don't take insurance. There is a

county program for autism that will pay for you to see dr's on their list IF

your insurance doesn't cover them -- so the docs are doing most people a

favor by denying their insurance; the patients don't have to pay co-pays or

deductables; the county picks it all up. Unfortunately for us, our

insurance covers any dr, but at a %age that just isn't enough for us to

afford them " out of network. " *sigh*
