Oh! Hi. Now I see your intro. Three? Ages? Names? All the other

vital statistics? So very glad you found us. I don't use a sig line

cause I post on line, but I'll introduce myself and brood so you at

least have an idea of whom I am writing or complaining about.

We live on the southern Oregon coast which is lovely, but has very

little in the way of shopping. The community is small town,

supportive (mostly) and folks are generally really nice. I am a

SAHM, married for 15 years to a pretty darn good guy. He's like a

good bottle of wine that keeps improving with time. He has one

daughter from a previous marriage that is 21, married and has a

baby. We have five kids.

, 14, Aspergers, Tourettes, Hyperlexic, incredibly brilliant.

She is going to high school up at my parents because the HS here was

not exactly helpful. She's doing extremely well there. Her being

there has been good for Gail, her, and my parents.

Gail, 12, Still waiting on CDRC report. Current dxs are severe ADHD,

OCD, anxiety with panic attacks. Revised is supposed to be Panic

Disorder with features of PDD, ADHD and a written language LD. Gail

also has some other health problems we are dealing with that are

requiring referrals to the University in POrtland which is a days

drive away.

, 9, autistic, tourette's, recently dx's with bipolar. He

is moderate to high functioning. He is doing better the last couple

weeks since we have changed his meds again and started him on a

combination of trazedone and risperidol. The last year has been VERY

bumpy indeed, but maybe, just maybe, possibly things may be leveling

off.

, almost 4, no dx yet. Evaluated at CDRC and determined to

have sensory regulatory problems, behavioral regulatory problems and

is considered to be at risk for developmental disorders. We are

supposed to be connecting up with a community consultant for OT and

more preschool to help with the behavioral/maladaptive stuff with

hopes that by kindergarton these will not persist in interfering with

his learning.

, almost 18mo. Possibly normal except for motor skills

delays. He only says mama and nini, but has the whole language

concept down. He is just unable to articulate speech. He varies

pitch, volume, etc. He was slower to turn over, sit, walk, swallow

food and everything else that involves muscle strength and

coordination but he is hittin all the developmental markers in order,

just slower with the motor skills ones. He has been evaled by a PT

and we have had some consultation. He is being reevaled in January

by the PT and an ST also. He is otherwise healthy and seems to be

very bright. I love having a kid that shows me stuff and hugs me.

Those baby hugs are just too great!

Now at least you'll have an idea of who and what I'm referring too!

LOL. Welcome.

Welcome . I am Tamara. I live in Wisconsin Dells, WI. I have two

step children, ages 17 and 10. I also have two children of my own, Ebony, 4

and , 8 months. Ebony is autistic. She is a beautiful loving little

girl who loves to smear poop and has a lot of other sensory issues. She

just started imitating verbally this last summer, but still doesn't use any

language to communicate. She also does not have very much receptive

language. Welcome to the group!!

In that case you probably actually know where I live. We live in

North Bend, north of the famous Bandon. I do have an apartment

downstairs that is not being used presently....and will be usable

after cleans it during holiday....Of course the beaches are not

real grand this time of year, but there's always summer. :)

Welcome . I think there is a I haven't welcomed also.

This is a very very good place for you guys to find. The support is

unparralled (sp?). We have some folks here that are super net

slueths with links for almost anything you need to read up on, and

lots of folks here with lots of practical experience.

I remember well the days of just beginning. I would suggest you read

everything you can get your hands on. There are some very

informative autism sites (I'm not the link master, ask) and some most

excellent books as well. I also learned alot from NORD, National

Order for Rare Diseases, it's a clearing house with tons of info, but

I didn't have a computer then either. Autism comes in spectrum from

very affected to mildly affected. One can be severely affected but

with therapy and education overcome a great deal of the autism to

function more on a mildly affected level. Never believe that your

child can not achieve. The more you do, or help your child do, the

younger you do it, the more he can do later. It's never to late to

start and it's never to early. Be agressive for you child. Sounds

like you started in an excellent school.

Welcome again.

Welcome to the list !

Yep - Autism can sure be different than most people believe, that's why some

of us have so much trouble....People just don't get it. I didn't hear the

word Autism associated with my daughter until she was 5 years old. 5

YEARS!!!

So anyhow, you will love this list. People are great here. They will not

judge you and you can say what you need to say. We will also try to help

whenever we can.

Where do you live in New York. I live in Queens and my son 7 pddnos

goes to a private school for autistic kids. What school does your son

go to. is pddnos, thats why he doesnt seem to fit the " typical "

description of autism (if there is really one). My son is

affectionate too, he gets upset if you are paying attention to

something other than him, and a few other things that dont quite fit

the " classic " autism description. The thing about SSI is that you

cant make more than so much money to qualify (50,ooo-I think).

However, preschooler with a disability is the board of education

term. You can get a neurologist to diagnos autism or pddnos (actually

consider as pervasive developmental disorder). Wedlcome to the list.

Welcome to the group . I am a stay at home mom, too. I have two

older step children, Ebony who is four and autistic, and who is 8

months old. I live in Wisconsin, so I can't help you with specific New York

questions, but as far as general autism information....read, read, read. Go

to the library and get every book you can (current books only) and read up.

There are many good books out there written by parents of autistic children

that were very helpful to me. Good luck and I look forward to talking to

you more.

I'm new here my name is and I'm a stay at home mom to 3 boys.

who's 7 and homeschooled do to some attention issues, 3 who

attends a special preschool for PPD-NOS and other problems, and last but not

I'm very new to all this and very confused. I knew something was wrong

with at around 18 months of age but I figured he was regressing because

of 's birth. I called the local school here for an evaulation this

august because was not showing signs of improvment and was very

fustrated that he could not communicate with me. I do not have the support

of his doctor, so I am in the middle of finding a doctor that understands

's needs.

I picked this well known school to do 's evaluation and because they

have one of the best preschools for children with disabilities in the state

of New York. His evaulation was hard on him, they were asking him to do

things that he just could not do. In the end the results came back that he

was functioning at a 15 month age level in almost everything but gross motor

skills. He now attends this preschool 5 days a week from 9-2. He seems to

love it and thrives there.

It's been hard on me because I didn't know anything about austism or

spectrum disorders at all. I always thought that autsism was totally

diffrent then what it really is. See is a loving child, he will sit

with me and have me hold him and kisses me and tells me he loves me. I

didn't think autistic children did those things. I was very wrong, because

even though sean does those things, he does many other things that are what

is said to be autistic tendencys.

I'm glad to have found this list and hope to learn and find

Hi !

I delayed having my older son tested because he didn't sound like any of the

information I could find on autism 8 years ago. Now I can come up with a

lot of stuff that sounds like my kids. They both loved to cuddle with us

just like yours. At least since he was already in a special ed. program

(early on) from infancy, he was already getting intervention for some of the

behaviors he had.

We have some members in New York, so maybe they can tell you how to apply

for SSI, etc..

Glad you joined!

< was never diagnoised with anything but he was in ELI till he was 3

for speech delays and cognitive problems. When we did live in Port Jervis

there was no way on Gods green earth I could send him to school there. So

we enrolled him in Trinity, which in the end I didn't want to send him. We

moved last November to Otisville and I did enroll him in school, it lasted 2

weeks. It was a nightmare, he was crying at night saying he couldn't do the

work. His teacher was a nightmare and I had to listen to her tell me that

she has to teach for the 4th grade test and she didn't feel he would do well

on it and needed to do another year of kindergaten. I gave in put him back

in Kindergarten and was disgusted that a child who could do mulitiplication

was learning to count to 5. I pulled him the following week. Minisink

Valley has a good director of pupil services and they offer all the support

I need.

Thank you I could use a good doctor recommendation. We are using Dr. Lee

out of Port. He is horrible but does well in a pinch. We were seeing Dr.

Smaltz but she left her port Jervis practice a year after was born and

I really miss her. I wish I knew if she was still around the area or did she

actually go to africa on missionary work like she was going to do.

It was a name of a group. I don't have the paperwork here but it's something

neurology. I'll look and see later when things here calm down.

Thank you for another name of someone. We had a very nice women in our IEP

meeting named Pat and I have called her about the bus service. PLE is

exactly 6 miles from my house. I thought it would work to have take the

bus but they wanted to pick him up at 8:30 which I thought was great but not

drop him off till 3:15, which i thought was horrible. I do not want this

child sitting on a bus for 1 15 mins. I asked for another route because a

bus drives by my house daily at 8:40am and then again at 2:20 pm why

couldn't he be on that bus. Globe transportation was not very accomdating so

I'll be driving him till next fall when they redo the routes.

Do you know where Otisville is? Most people don't even though we are close

to Middletown. If you blink you drive right though it. I remember moving

here when I was little thinking my mother and father took me to the middle

of nowhere.

Nice to meet you

yeah, PLE is nice. kailey went there for a couple of months, first in the

Hi -

I am Meghan and I live in upstate NY. You can apply for SSI by

calling your local Social Security office, or the 800 number... or

you can get info on www.ssa.gov ... Noah was getting SSI for a few

months until I got a job, then we didnt qualify anymore! (which

sucks!) When you get ssi you are immediately eligible for medicaid,

which is really cool, because it will help with DR bills. Of course

once we lost SSI, lost that too! I am not sure what the income

requirement is, but if you call, they will tell you. If your child

has a diagnosis on the Autism spectrum, they would be eligible, as

far as I know. If you dont qualify for SSI you can still qualify

for NY states health insurance program Child Health Plus. Hope this

helps!

Good luck!

Hi Kim.

Welcome to the group! This is a great bunch of people. There's always someone to listen to a vent, help with advice or lend a shoulder to cry on. It's so important that we not feel alone in our daily struggles with FMS and all that it brings.

I look forward to getting to know you. Your very lucky to have found a good doctor and to have a good support system.

My name is Jim , 26, single, and living in Flag City U.S.A.

(Findlay, OH). I was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome in 2001. I have

done research on AS, and have learned lots about Asperger's. I am a

volunteer at our local drop-in center and an avid bowler. I attend

church as often as possible. I am currently attending our local

community college, majoring in Marketing and Sales Tech. I hope to

graduate soon. Hope to hear from you all soon. God bless :-)
