Guest guest
You get a root canal when the hard part of your tooth has decayed to the point that the part of the tooth that has a nerve is corrupted, infected or exposed. It usually hurts like and sob or will soon if untreated. Usually tyhe root canal isn't that painful. I've had two and it was actually a HUGE relief after the pain I was already having. If done right they remove the affected roots and then you can't feel pain in that tooth. I did lose one tooth after that but it took 20 years and was bungled by a military dentist years before the final removal. Root canals sound scary but they are goooood if you need one. They do use local and its not that bad but can be painful if you wait until you have a serious infection so don;t put it off if you need one. Be mindful that waiting can cause more problems and damage to other teeth. Doing it sooner could be no more traumatic that the usual filling. Sometimes its just like pulling the plug on the pain you already have - it just goes. While it is wonderful to share our experiences with everyone on the list as to what treatments do and don't work for us, pls always check with your dr. Some treatments are dangerous when given along with other meds as well as to certain health conditions or just dangerous in general.2. If you are in a difficult situation (doesn't matter what it is) pls don't be afraid to ask for help. It is the first step to trying to make that situation better.Have a nice day everyone. Guest guest
Hi Jana, I've had many root canals done. Normally, at least for me, the tooth in question becomes very sensitive to warm things. A root canal is done when there is infection or the majority of the tooth is compromised. In other words the only way to save the tooth is to remove the nerve/s. I have always used Nitrous Oxide when having this procedure done. It doesn't knock you out but you couldn't care less what their doing to you. It can become uncomfortable while they're finding the nerves, but you do have novacaine. The tooth I just had done last week had an extra nerve in it, so it took some time to finish the procedure. My endodontist used a microscope to look into the root of the tooth to make sure he got all the infection and nerve/s out. This tooth was not painful but the tooth broke in half so therefor I needed a root canal. Hope this helps a little. Kathleen in NC
Guest guest
They used to be really bad,, and hurt lots... but the procedure has changed and normally you dont feel anything they are doing. But with FMS you need to make sure you tell your dentist that you are on pain meds, (if you are) so they know that you may need a bit more numbing stuff. And also if you have TMJ, so that they may let you rest your jaw. Most dentists will let you do this, so no worries. If you hear me rant about mine, it is because I just had a root canal done.. but have to go to a clinic to do it so that I may pay on payments,,, so it is a dentist that does not have a good reputation and works in a clinic... some are good and some are not so good. It is just who you have to do your teeth. I had no choice to get it fixed and in the long run it is far better off. Please do not be afraid to get it done, it is way better to do so. Huggles you lots Sophia -- Re: FSG question about root canal PLEASE READ!!! Hi Jana,I've had many root canals done.
