There is a lot of talk about having your cortisol levels checked. What about

adrenal

antibodies? Is this something that needs to be checked? If so, blood or saliva

test? What do

the results mean?

I think only if you suspect that you might have 's disease.

They can do a blood test for that.

I asked my doctor about getting an adrenal antibody test. She did

some research and came back to tell me that there are several issues

with the testing. First, it isn't FDA approved yet so insurance won't

cover it. The cost was over $300 for me. Second, the accuracy isn't

all that great. It was around 80% accurate with a high rate of false

positives. In other words, you could test positive for antibodies and

not really have them. If you have antibodies you would be considered

Primary 's. Too bad this test isn't very accurate, I am sure

it would help a lot of us out there.

Hopefully my information is correct because it all came from my

doctor. If anyone out there has anything different to add I would

love to hear it. I have wondered for a long time if I have 's

since my saliva test was so so so very low.

Hi, a,

How are you feeling? Hope you're doing better!

That's interesting, a...my insurance covered it a year ago.

My thoughts on the false positive...better a false positive & retest

than a false negative!

My test was through Specialty Labs in California - Valencia, I think.

Warmly,

Here's a link to Specialty Labs adrenal autoantibodies page:

http://www.specialtylabs.com/tests/details.asp?id=1130

It has a CPT code, so I'm thinking it WOULD be covered by insurance?

Anyone know about that?

Don't doctors test for adrenal antibodies in the case

of suspected 's? If so then it would be covered

by insurance - maybe it has to be tested and coded

specifically for the reason of suspected 's?
